Think of the different women who have discipled you in your Christian walk. What was most impactful about what they said or what they did? Now think of the women you have discipled. How did you share your very heart with them? What was special about your relationship? There is no doubt that discipleship is important. Ideally, we are being discipled and discipling others at the same time. When we disciple others, it’s important to remind them often of the gospel. It’s important to shepherd them in the ways of the Lord. It’s important to ask God to use our labors in a fruitful and effective way that He might be glorified. Paul, like a loving parent, discipled the Colossians. His love for them drove his desire for them to grow in godliness. But before he told them what they were to do, he told them who they were in Christ. He exhorted them to seek Jesus, slay their sins, and strive for holiness. Likewise, as we disciple others, we need to encourage them to seek the Savior, slay their sins, and strive for godliness.
