Why is doing ministry together so important? In our individualistic and often isolated culture, it’s tempting to think that we might be able to do ministry alone. But nothing could be further from the truth. It’s likely you know people who are no longer in ministry because they didn’t have the support they needed to persevere when things got hard. While it can be hard to admit at times that we need others, the truth is we do. We were made to live in community. Because we are in union with Christ, we are in communion with other believers. We are to share our gifts for the encouragement and edification of the church. We are to engage with our church family each week in corporate worship. We are to pray for one another and encourage each other to wisely steward our God-given gifts. Paul, at the end of his letter to the Colossians, reveals how important fellow laborers were to him as he fulfilled his God-given ministry. He reminds us that community is a gift from God. Together we are to glorify God by using our gifts for the encouragement and edification of the church.
