In what ways have you been taught to highlight your strengths and hide your weaknesses? When people ask you how you are doing, do you tell them areas in which you’re struggling? Many of us appear to be okay when we’re really not. We often deny sins we’re harboring in our hearts. We fail to let people know the extent of our suffering. And we don’t reach out for help when serving is difficult. While the book of Colossians provides us with a handbook for Christian living, the book of Philemon gives us a case study. Because we are in a relationship with God, we are to seek relationships with other believers. And because we are reconciled to God by faith in Jesus Christ, we are to seek reconciliation with others. Although isolation and individualism might seem more convenient and comfortable, they fall short of God’s design for us to live in community with one another.
