During the March 11, 2025 open meeting of the Oakland Mills Board of Directors, Jon Woods, Excelsa, and members of ROSS Management, shared images and location for flutter flags they would like to display in the highlighted area of the above shown map. The March 11th presentation was not an official exterior alteration application for approval of these plans. Rather, it constitutes only the first step in the Oakland Mills Non-Residential Architecture Review Process.
The process to make exterior alterations to a commercial property falls under the Oakland Mills Non-Residential Architectural Process and Guidelines. As required, the property owner makes a presentation to the Board and community followed by a three week comment period. After the three weeks, the Oakland Mills Covenant Advisor compiles a report based on the comments submitted and sends the report to the property owner. The property owner can then file a Non-Residential Exterior Alteration Application.
As the second step of the review process, the Oakland Mills Board of Directors is now opening a three-week comment period for members of the community to review and respond to the architectural plans presented. Any comments regarding the installation of the proposed flutter flags should be submitted in writing by sending an email to Michael Vaughn, Covenant Advisor, applications@oaklandmills.org, by dropping comments off at The Other Barn to Mike's attention, or by mailing them to Oakland Mills at 5851 Robert Oliver Place, Columbia, MD 21045. The three-week comment period will end on Wednesday, April 2, 2025.
