Transformation

“Are we becoming something new or finding something more true?”

April 23, Two services:  9am and 11am — “Global Effects: Celebrating Science!”

In this world where science is being relegated to the realm of non-truth, come explore the changes that provide the energy to make transformation happen. Come celebrate Earth Day and the Science March!  Rev J speaks.  Music featuring Kim Eickhoff and Rev. Julia.

Congratulations on a Successful First 2-service Sunday

My gratitude to all the volunteers and staff that worked extra hard to make the first Sunday of our two-services pilot run smoothly!  I am especially proud of all of us for making more room and extending our reach.  We had very strong attendance at both services and this will be important to continue as we open our doors wider and wider.  This Sunday we warmly welcomed 10 new visitors to our sanctuary!

Our warm welcome seems especially important today as we honor the 18th Anniversary of the Columbine shooting.  Columbine UU Church was life-saving for many people during this tragedy and our sanctuary continues to be a safe place for so many who experience all kinds of vulnerabilities.  Our experience being at the epicenter of this event moves us to lift our unique voice for healthy gun safety legislation, as well as continue to be a home for those lives broken by all forms of violence and abuse.  Our hearts are with all the mothers and fathers, the siblings, and our friends who mourn again this time every year.

Today this is my prayer:

When we see an image of violence,

May we find an image of beauty to gaze upon.

When we hear sounds of brutishness,

May we listen for the song of the Spring bird.

When we feel hate in the heart of some in the world,

            May we send compassion.

This is not to ignore the horrors that humans visit upon other humans, but instead to bring our attention to the fullness of love, beauty, and aliveness that will give us reason to preserve all that we love.  Make an effort to embrace the beauty in your life today and move toward it in some small way.

Every blessing,

Rev Julia McKay

Our Adult Faith Development Opportunity for May,
The Embodiment of Play
We adults might think we’re playful, but boy do our brains get in the way. Embodying play leads to confidently experiencing our authentic selves without time for judgment or censorship. It’s exactly what we did as children- without any of the adult brain involvement.

This fun, four-week adventure invites you to reconnect through a series of improvisational games. We’ll examine what keeps you engaged with self, with other and with this moment.

*The skills presented each week are designed to build off of the previous week’s exercises. Attending all four sessions is recommended, but not required.

We Need Your Help With the Garden
Still looking for a couple of volunteers to help out with the front garden…or just trimming the greenery on the south side of the parking lot. You need a strong back, some tools for what you can do, and a will to make our church look lovely for the spring into fall. Call or text Sylvia at 720-409-2780, or email her at [email protected]. We’ll get together in a couple of weeks to plan out the season.

I have three healthy Angelwing begonias. These are for sale for $6.00 each. The money will go to a little fund for the CUUC garden. If you are interested contact Sylvia. I will make sure you get your plant. These are great indoor plants, needing little sun.
