Academy Alumni In the News

Allegra Solomon '16 was selected as the winner of the 2023 Kimbilio National Fiction Prize for her collection of short stories titled "There's Nothing Left For You Here," which will be published in spring 2025. Allegra developed a passion for storytelling by writing short stories every day she came home from school. She credits Brianna Stout's creative writing course for opening her up to the critiquing process that guided her throughout her BA in Creative Writing at Ohio University and MFA from the University of Kentucky. Allegra also ascribes her success to her two best friends (Mary Kate Kelley ’16 and Samantha Hunker ’16), who have read everything she's ever written from high school through graduate school and beyond. "I attribute so much to this friendship, and I have Academy to thank for that!"

Our completely redesigned school magazine came out last month featuring David Block, who is in his 50th year of teaching art at Academy, on the cover. To view the online version, click here. If you would like to request a print copy, please just reply to this newsletter with your address. We hope you enjoy the design, which utilizes more white space, larger photos and several articles all tied to the theme of student flourishing.
Also, check out this new video for Columbus Academy that is targeted to families with children who could potentially enroll in our school. This project is one result of a 16-month partnership with Venn Growth Collective, a local-based hybrid between a management consulting firm and an advertising agency. The video's purpose is to offer a glimpse of a typical day on our campus, highlighting that we endeavor to help students grow into capable, confident and engaged global citizens.
