If you have clips that you have authored or where you are featured (either in print or on the web), please pass them along for future issues. Press clippings can be sent to Director of Alumni Relations Melissa Clarke Beckett at beckettm@columbusacademy.org.

At the National Football Foundation (NFF) and College Hall of Fame’s recent 61st annual Scholar-Athlete Awards Banquet, Academy senior Gyvnn Mendenhall and alumnus Angus Soderberg ’18 were honored as NFF Scholar-Athletes. Pictured with Viking head coach Robin Miller, Kenyon head coach Ian Good and Lords teammate Phil Soderberg ’20, Angus (second from right) was one of seven football players from colleges and universities in Central Ohio to be recognized for his academic prowess while playing defensive back at Kenyon.

Gyvnn, meanwhile, was one of 13 high school scholar-athletes presented with John H. McConnell and Worthington Industries Foundation Scholarships, which he will use to further his football career on the collegiate level at Washington University in St. Louis next year. Just this past weekend, Gyvnn accomplished his goal of completing his wrestling career on the state podium. By placing 7th among Division III heavyweights, he became Academy’s first state placer since Scott Smith ’03 won the 189-lb state title 19 years ago. And Gyvnn’s 41 wins in both 2020 and 2022 were the most in a season since a 42-win senior campaign by Bryan Panzano ’08.
