In honor of the 496 Columbus Academy alumni who have served our country in one of the armed forces, as well as the eight current coaches, faculty/staff, facility and security team members (Neal O'Brien, Dan Olexio and Russell Robinson, United States Army — Dennis Gillman, Matt Mele, Katrina Newburn and Christian Schweers, United States Air Force — Jon Wagshul, United States Navy) who have also served in the military, the school bell atop Morris Hall will ring 504 times the morning of Veterans Day.
From our very first graduate (Carey Evans, Class of 1914) to our first alumnae to serve — Mary Beth Ray and Jamie Scheiman, both from our Class of 2006 — to our most recent graduate Luke Nester '21, who is a Midshipman at the U.S. Naval Academy, Columbus Academy commends the spirit of service its many alumni, faculty, staff, coaches, parents and friends have chosen to uphold.
Alumni veterans, please join the Columbus Academy community as we honor Veterans Day on Thursday, November 11. A Look Back at Alumni Weekend 2021
|
Alumni enjoyed a weekend celebrating all things CA October 1-2, 2021. The festivities began Friday evening with a special reception for the Class of 1970 as those Vikings celebrated their 50th reunion. On Saturday, Academy families past and present took part in the Viking Rampage Challenge (a mud-run course designed by alumnus and parent Ryan Yeoman '90 that is set up through the campus woods), toured campus, heard The State of Academy from Head of School Melissa Soderberg, found themselves back in the classroom, and listened to the best Junior Speeches from 2020-21. Also, individual classes gathered throughout the weekend for their class reunions.

Boys Win 5th-Straight State Title, Girls Place 4th in Golf
|
This past weekend was a historic one for our varsity golfers as our girls placed fourth in their first state tournament and the boys claimed their fifth-straight Division II championship. Playing at NorthStar, our boys overcame a 10-stroke deficit on the first day to win by three strokes for their sixth state title in eight seasons under head coach Craig Yakscoe. And in just their third year as a program under head coach Maggie Freytag, our girls earned their first league and district championships to advance to states, where they posted a 694 team score on Ohio State's Gray Course. To learn more about how our girls golf program got started, click here, and read a Columbus Dispatch recap of both teams' performances by clicking here.
