A Look Back at Alumni Weekend 2022
Nearly 200 alumni, faculty, staff, family and friends enjoyed a weekend celebrating all things Academy on September 23-24.

The festivities began Friday evening with special receptions for the classes of 1971 and 1972 as those Vikings celebrated their 50th reunions. Prior to kickoff of the varsity football game against Buckeye Valley, members of the Class of 1972 headed down to Hondros Field to serve as honorary captains for the coin toss. Halftime of the football game also welcomed members of the 1995 state championship boys soccer team to midfield as the group was honored for its Covid-delayed 25th anniversary victory over Richfield Revere in the Division II state finals.

On Saturday graduates joined long-tenured and retired faculty, staff and coaches for coffee, toured campus, heard "The State of Academy" from Head of School Melissa Soderberg, participated in the inaugural MOSAIC/Black Alumni Luncheon, enjoyed a picnic lunch and recognized Michael Corey '01 and Ryan Williams '08 as the 2020 and 2022 Young Alumni Award recipients. Also, individual classes gathered throughout the weekend for their class reunions.

School News
In this year’s National Merit Scholarship Program, 23 seniors from Columbus Academy have earned either Semifinalist or Commended Student honors! “We are so proud of these students because they each represent what is best in young people today,” stated Head of School Melissa Soderberg. “They work very hard on behalf of others, develop lots of skills in addition to academic and intellectual ones, and they admire their family members as some of the most inspirational people in their lives. We look forward to seeing their successes in the world.” To learn more, click here.
Families interested in enrollment for the 2023-24 school year are welcome to register for upcoming Viking Visits, which involve coffee and conversation about all three divisions where parents can meet teachers and administrators as well as see Columbus Academy in action. Also, the popular Zoom@Noon webcasts will again take place this fall through the winter months as Director of Admissions and Tuition Assistance John Wuorinien will help families get a glimpse into the Academy experience as faculty and staff preview topics such as the Independent School Model, S.T.E.A.M., College Counseling, Diversity and Community Life, Math, Performing Arts, Athletics and more.
