Apparently, reports of the death of US-China trade were greatly exaggerated. Americans are buying more from China now than before the pandemic, and China is buying from the US a little more than before.

This may mean that, rhetoric to the contrary, the US and the PRC are not exactly decoupling and there remain opportunities to be taken advantage of in selling to and buying from the Chinese-speaking world.

Meanwhile, trade continues to grow between the US and other places with significant populations of Chinese speakers, including Taiwan and the nations of Southeast Asia.

Maybe it's time to look into Chinese lessons from the Columbus School of Chinese! Adult beginner classes start August 9th.

Let's look to SupChina for a fun fact for this issue of the newsletter: On July 28th, 1372, the founding emperor of the Ming Dynasty was presented with an auspicious pair of melons. Read on...

Ohio Business for Immigration Solutions is preparing for a social media takeover in late August. Don't know what a "social media takeover" is? Check out this explanation.

The goal of the takeover is to highlight a broad range of positive immigrant contributions to Ohio’s economy through various social media platforms. OBIS will partner with New American Economy and also encourage supporter organizations to share our stories on your social media accounts as well.

Each social media submission will include:
  • A brief narrative about the immigrant (or first/second generation American)’s business, employment or success story; and,
  • A photo, if possible, that is relevant to the narrative.

We are open to all ideas for submissions and are available to help write the text or brainstorm ideas. Below are examples from a similar social media takeover in Texas.

OBIS asks that you please submit your submissions to Kyle Petty by COB on Friday, August 6th so they can coordinate and finalize the posts in time for the takeover.

If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact Kyle.
