The Ohio State University National East Asian Languages Resource Center (NEALRC) was founded in 1993 and has contributed many initiatives designed to increase learners' abilities to master advanced levels of language and cultural competence.

Among the many resources generated and made available through the NEALRC are learning materials (textbooks, workbooks, teachers' guides, audio and video recordings) for more than a dozen less commonly taught languages, pedagogy and program development resource and guide books, teacher training and intensive language summer institutes, and more.

To learn more about the language resources provided by the NEALRC - including Americans trained to professional proficiency in the Chinese Flagship Program at OSU - please contact Professor Galal Walker.

China's newly passed Personal Information Protection Law (PIPL) took effect Nov. 1, 2021. The passing of PIPL in late August has significantly changed the privacy and data protection landscape in China.

With such robust legislative changes, it is critically important that companies that operate in China or process personal information of individuals located in China be aware of the new law and take affirmative steps to ensure compliance or risk being faced with serious penalties.

The Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) published its “Request for Comments on the Possible Reinstatement of Certain Exclusions in the Section 301 Investigation of China’s Acts, Policies, and Practices Related to Technology Transfer, Intellectual Property, and Innovation” on Oct. 12, 2021.

The USTR is requesting comments on whether to reinstate previously granted Section 301 tariffs exclusions for certain products from China. If reinstated, U.S. companies who import such goods will realize lower trade costs and, in turn, pass that savings along to consumers and businesses.

From Community Colleges to a 4-Year Degree: A Path with Many Benefits

Learn about the immediate and long-term benefits of a community-college education, and how this path can provide a better opportunity to be accepted to a higher-ranked college/university from which the student will receive their diploma.

Hear from 3 excellent U.S. community colleges - including Columbus State Community College - and the transfer officials from some of the 4-year universities they each provide a pathway to. Students who attended community college before transferring to a 4-year college will talk about their experiences.

A Q&A will provide the opportunity to ask questions of the community colleges, transfer officials, and students. Based upon interest, a virtual fair with the opportunity to personally meet with various community colleges will be offered as a follow-up.
