Good morning Coffee People.

New Year's resolutions sometimes get a bad wrap. They sound great in theory, but how many are we able to stick to in practice? We're addressing this in our own small way, promoting a resolution that's both achievable and durable: the freshness resolution. Anyone who's tasted fresh-roasted coffee knows the stale stuff one buys in stores--whether in pods, bags, or giant red plastic containers--doesn't compare. And I know I'm preaching to the choir here so I won't belabor the point. But in 2025 I will be talking about freshness--one of our core values--a lot more. It's a message worth sharing and certainly applies to more than coffee. Speaking of freshness, if you haven't yet tried our roast-to-order coffee then I invite you today. There's no fresher coffee out there. Freshness resolution or full-blown roast-to-order revolution--we think 2025 is going to be a very good year. OK. There's also some BIG news today so let's get to it. (Click below to view our newsletter)

Designing for Durability and Energy Efficiency: Homes That Last and Save

In rural areas like Stevens County, homes face unique challenges, from heavy snowfall to wildlife activity and fluctuating temperatures. At Wethered Timberworks LLC, we build with durability and energy efficiency in mind, creating homes that stand the test of time while saving homeowners money on utility costs.

Here’s how we combine robust materials and thoughtful design to deliver homes that are as energy-efficient as they are durable.

Roofing That Protects and Saves Energy

We trust Owens Corning Duration and their three-part roofing system for exceptional durability and energy performance. This advanced system includes:

  • Underlayment: Acts as a moisture barrier, preventing leaks and protecting the roof deck from harsh weather.
  • Shingles: Owens Corning Duration shingles feature SureNail Technology for incredible wind resistance and long-term performance. Their ENERGY STAR-rated options reflect sunlight, helping to keep homes cooler in the summer and reducing air conditioning costs.
  • Ventilation: Proper ventilation extends the life of your roof and helps regulate indoor temperatures, reducing energy usage year-round.

This combination not only protects your home but also contributes to significant energy savings over time.

Fiber Cement Siding That Shields and Insulates

For exterior durability and energy efficiency, we recommend fiber cement siding. This material is:

  • Highly Durable: Resistant to moisture, pests, and fire, making it ideal for the challenges of rural environments.
  • Low Maintenance: Unlike traditional wood siding, fiber cement requires minimal upkeep, saving time and money.
  • Energy Efficient: Offers excellent thermal performance, helping to keep homes comfortable in any season.

Strategic Home Placement for Daylighting

Designing with the sun in mind can significantly enhance energy efficiency and comfort. Here’s how we incorporate daylighting principles:

  • Orientation: Placing windows to capture maximum natural light in living spaces reduces the need for artificial lighting during the day.
  • Eaves and Overhangs: Designed to allow sunlight in during the winter when the sun is lower but block it in the summer when the sun is higher.
  • Window Placement: Positioning windows to maximize cross-ventilation and reduce heating and cooling loads.

These techniques harness natural energy, lowering utility bills and improving the overall indoor environment.

High-Performance Windows and Doors

Windows and doors play a critical role in both durability and energy savings. We recommend:

  • Double or Triple-Pane Windows: Minimize heat transfer and improve insulation while reducing outside noise.
  • Energy-Efficient Doors: Well-insulated doors with tight seals help maintain indoor temperatures and prevent drafts.

Interior Materials That Last and Save

Durable interior choices can also boost energy efficiency and stand up to daily wear:

  • Solid Surface and Granite Counters: Beautiful, long-lasting, and resistant to scratches, stains, and heat—perfect for hardworking kitchens and bathrooms.
  • Luxury Vinyl Plank (LVP) Flooring: Resistant to wear and water, and it doesn’t expand or contract with temperature changes.
  • LED Lighting: Energy-efficient lighting options last longer and consume far less energy than traditional bulbs.

Already Have Your Design?

At Wethered Timberworks LLC, we work with any design! Whether you bring your own plans or collaborate with us to create your vision, we’re here to bring it to life with precision and care.

Why Durability and Energy Efficiency Matter

When durability meets energy efficiency, the result is a home that:

  • Saves Money: Lower utility bills and reduced maintenance costs add up over time.
  • Protect the Environment: Energy-efficient homes reduce your carbon footprint, making them better for the planet.
  • Enhances Comfort: Better insulation, ventilation, and daylighting improve indoor air quality and temperature regulation, creating a healthier living environment.

At Wethered Timberworks LLC, we take pride in designing and building homes that balance strength, sustainability, and style. With durable materials like the Owens Corning Duration roofing system, fiber cement siding, and smart energy-saving strategies like daylighting, we’re committed to crafting homes that protect your investment and your future.

Contact us today to learn how we can help you design and build a durable, energy-efficient home that’s ready for anything.

ScaleUp Business Training

The path to seven figures begins here!

ScaleUp Business Training was designed to help established businesses increase profitability, build capacity, and spur growth.

  • Do you feel like you have no time outside of working in your business?
  • Are you spending too much time on low profit activities?
  • Have high maintenance clients taken over your schedule?
  • Are you thinking of selling your business?
  • Need help interpreting your fiscal drivers?

This powerful program will give you the tools necessary to take your time back, break through the profit plateau, create new sources of revenue, and help you to work on your business rather than in your business!

ScaleUp is a flexible time commitment and is delivered online through the ScaleUp online learning environment, live training sessions with roundtable discussion, and weekly Study Hall mentorship hours. Graduates of the program will also retain continued access to the Alumni resources, which include all of the above and much more!

Our trainers are highly qualified and come with years of practical experience building and scaling businesses and helping others do the same.

This program is most beneficial for established business owners, with two or more years’ experience owning and operating a small business, and are currently based in Washington state.

This program which normally costs $1,599 is currently provided at no cost to Washington State businesses through June 30, 2025, thanks to ongoing support from the Washington Department of Commerce... click here for more information.

We are here to serve businesses and job seekers in Stevens, Ferry, Pend Oreille, and Lincoln Counties. Our services include the WorkSource WA job board, where businesses can create an employer account, post jobs, and view resumes that match their job description. If businesses would like their open positions featured on our WorkSource Colville Facebook page, please let us know. We also offer assistance with On-the-Job-Training, where newly hired, qualified applicants could be eligible for 50 percent reimbursement of their wages to their new employer during the training period. A contract must be in place before the first day of employment. We also have information on the Work Opportunity Tax Credit if businesses hire individuals from certain populations. If businesses are facing layoffs, they check out our Layoff assistance page for resources. For a comprehensive view of services available to employers, go to the Employer Resources section on the ESD Website. Feel free to contact our office at (509) 685-6158 to learn more about these resources.
