Cox began his career in public education in 1981 as a social studies teacher in the Casa Grande High School District, followed by a thirty year tenure in the Mesa Public School District where he served as a teacher, coach, Assistant Principal, Athletic Director, Principal, Assistant Superintendent and Associate Superintendent, prior to joining Combs in 2017.
Among his proudest accomplishments while serving the Combs community for the past five years are the rollout of learner centered culture through the District's #Forward initiative, the cost neutral re-organization of his department to improve effectiveness, and supporting the growth of the District's principals. In retirement, Cox plans to spend time at with his five grandchildren, play golf, and enjoy his property up north.
"The breadth of knowledge and experience that Bruce has brought to our District is truly unmatched," said Superintendent Dr. Greg Wyman. "His unwavering commitment to putting students first has been a guiding light in our work with #Forward, and his impact and contributions will continue to be felt by our Combs community for years to come. We are immensely grateful for his years of service and wish him the best in his much deserved retirement."
