Fresh Ink : The Books We Can't Wait for You to Read

Ages 7+
Dav Pilkey
The fifth volume of Dog Man hit our shelves this week! We've got DOG MAN, Petey - The World's Most Evilest Cat, and plenty of flip-o-ramas!

Ages 8-12
Kim Tomsic
A fantastic story from a fantastic Colorado debut author. What happens when you make a wish in your classroom at 11:11? Megan Myers finds out the hard way as a world of magic, middle school drama, and teen magazine fun all collide.

Ages 4-8
Brian Lies
Brian Lies is a favorite of The Bookies. His 'BATS AT...' series is one of our most popular and now he's returned with another beautiful book. However, consider yourself warned: THE ROUGH PATCH has made every single person who has read it cry. It's a touching, sad story of loss, what happens after loss, and how our hero, or ourselves, return to the world.
Adult Fiction
Clint, Griffin & Justin McElroy
For anyone who has ever played a role-playing game and laughed harder at their adventures than they have a comedic movie, this graphic novel is for you. Goofy, crass, and a lot of fun. It's a hit from :01 Books, with sequels already promised.
Adult Non-Fiction
Steven J. Ross
An overlooked book that Bookie Sue G. has discovered for our store and championed. This is the true story of how Nazis planned a massive attack on Hollywood and how Jewish people at large in LA as well as a small group of men and women, led by Leon Lewis, stopped them. One of the most amazing true stories you've probably never heard of.
Adult Fiction
  John Larison
The classic American western is making a resurgence in fiction and one of the voices to watch is John Larison. Named a best book by Entertainment Weekly, O Magazine, and NPR's All Things Considered, this novel follows a young woman fighting her way through the West, circa 1885. She's alone, hiding who she is, and hunting her outlaw brother. See what all the buzz is about in this incredible debut.
THE BOOK THIEF's Markus Zusak is back with BRIDGE OF CLAY

A decade after the publication of his groundbreaking bestseller, THE BOOK THIEF, Markus Zusak has returned with the novel of his career. Told with even more heart, this complex and intricately woven family saga spans three generations to culminate in a single miracle: a boy and his bridge. Stop in today to reserve your signed copy and receive an exclusive limited edition leather bookmark (while supplies last).

A Very Busy August at The Bookies

While we are very sad all our best friends have now gone back to school for the year, we're so thankful to everyone who came out for our events in August. Every Tuesday, Ms. Hunter read and made crafts about dogs! Every Saturday, our friends came to read with us, including the CU Women's Hockey Team, Glendale Raptors Rugby Team, Lisa Hidalgo of Channel 7, and the scientists of 500 Women Scientists of Denver. We had our release party of the new DOG MAN and our Book Club Night with Larry. We can't wait to see you all again and make new friends, both young and old, in September!

Book Club Night with Larry Yoder

Our s ec ond annual 'Book Club Talk' was a smashing success. A sold-out crowd listen ed as longtime Bookie Larry, who came out of retirement for this one night, gave us his favorite picks for book clubs as they ramp up this fall. After all the dust settled, after the books were sold and the gift bags taken, one question was asked of us more than any other: Where can I get the list?
Simple! You can pick one up at our front desk or wait until our next newsletter to see it online.
Thank you to everyone who came, and a huge thank you to Larry Yoder for another home run event!
