Family Sunday
Sunday, May 20 is Pentecost, when we celebrate the birth of the church. Rev. Brenda Smith will preach on "A New Church for A New Time" at 8 9:30 and 11 am, and there will be Sunday School! As Deacon and Director of Family Ministry at PVUMC, she also encourages everyone to worship as a family NEXT Sunday, May 28.

  Dear Friend in Faith,

Our legacy as United Methodists is to be God’s love in action. That has been true from the days of John Wesley onward. The early Methodists shared in works of mercy, providing health care, helping the poor, visiting the sick and imprisoned; and works of justice like addressing issues of child labor, grain shortages due to increased alcohol production in 18th century Britain, advocating for the abolition of slavery. Methodists were often accused of mixing religion and politics, which can still be dicey nowadays. God never wants us to turn our backs on the world. As we have been talking about the legacy of our founder, John Wesley, he encouraged us to live our lives like Jesus, who said, “I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples if you have love for one another” (John 13:34-35). Youth Choir Bon Voyage Concert
On Pentecost Sunday, May 20 , you're invited to the Youth Choir's Bon Voyage Concert at 1 pm. They are going on a choir tour to Las Vegas Memorial Day weekend. They will visit Rev. Eve Williams' church, Advent UMC, and spend some time there with the youth and participate in worship. All our choirs take a break for the summer, except for the Chancel Choir, who sings on the first Sunday of the month at 9:30 am.

Summer Sundays, Vacation Bible Camp and Sportball
Vacation Bible Camp, Rolling River Rampage: Experience the Ride of a Lifetime with God , July 16-20, 2018 , 9 am – 12 noon, will be here before you know it! If you can volunteer to lead a class, help with decorating, or assist in any way, please email Rev. Brenda Smith, OR Bethany Taylor, VBC chair, . NEW this year is an afternoon sports camp, Sportball, which extends the day until 3:30 pm.

Pentecost Prayers for the UMC
Every season, our worship spaces feature new decor to reflect the church calendar. This Pentecost, as in past seasons, we will be blessed with a new colorful Pentecost mobile featuring doves and flames. Thank you for your prayers of hope for the UMC shared on the paper doves.The doves will be part of the new mobile, hanging May 20.
UMC Celebrates 50 Years
Pentecost Sunday is also Heritage Sunday when the UMC celebrates 50 years of transforming the world. Bishop Robert Hoshibata of the Desert Southwest Conference recently shared a letter with our conference expressing his joy of this Jubilee celebration as well as a summary of a recent Council of Bishops meeting, which resulted in support of a One Church Plan. Silent March and Film Screening for Gun Violence Awareness Day
This morning, our nation awoke to another school shooting, in Texas. Our hearts are heavy with grief. Pray for the victims' families and, as a church who is God's love in action, you're invited to do even more. Join the Silent March on June 2, 2018, National Gun Violence Awareness Day. There is also a special film screening planned on May 30. Together, we can be God's love in action by bringing more awareness to gun violence in our nation. Read More

Summer Camp and Youth Missions
We encourage our youth to volunteer at Vacation Bible Camp the week BEFORE the 2018 Senior High Mission Trip to Houston, TX, July 22-27, 2018, and at Mingus Mountain elementary camps. There are also camps for junior and senior high youth. Read more about the summer camps via the Desert Southwest Conference and register today. Stop by the Paradise Perk Sundays, 9 am-1 pm, in support of youth missions.

Access the PVUMC Summer Camps brochure on our website and use the interactive links to register for VBC, Mingus Camp, and get information about Imagine That! Summer Camp, which meets on our campus, May 29-July 5.

The church gift shop will be open through Father's Day on Sundays, 9-11 am. During May, 30 percent of the proceeds will go toward Mingus Camp scholarships.
