On The Spiritual Journey: Rocks and Roots

“finding a path through the wilderness”: a sermon and four sessions

Join us as we explore of what it means to grow spiritually. We seek spiritual growth in order to sustain our faith and practice in our daily walk. Using the metaphor of “wilderness,” we will read and reflect on passages from scripture, poets, theologians, and mystics. As we discover both personal and corporate pathways through “wilderness” both real and metaphorically, we will share questions and seek wisdom about those things challenging us as persons,

communities and as the church.

Our format begins with the sermon on Wednesday February 28th @ 7PM via Zoom: Rocks and Roots: “Let’s Talk about the Walk”. We will follow that sermon with four zoom sessions. Each one will continue to explore themes introduced through the sermon.

We encourage folks to commit to all four sessions as each one builds on the previous one.

Questions may be directed to Charlie at revdochart@gmail.com.

Weekly Prayer

praise_the_lord.jpg

May my feet rest firmly on the ground

May my head touch the sky

May I see clearly

May I have the capacity to listen

May I be free to touch

May my words be true

May my heart and mind be open

May my hands be empty to fill the need

May my arms be open to others

May my gifts be revealed to me

So I may return that which has been given

Completing the great circle.

Thoughtful Insights From Reverend Charles Hartman

When Roger Williams was forced out of the Massachusetts Bay Colony in 1636, he made his way to the banks of the Seekonk River and began his settlement in what is now East Providence. When the Plymouth Colony leaders objected he moved to what is now Providence and settled there. He did this with the cooperation and blessings of Canonicus, the sachem of the Narragansett people. The Baptist are indebted to the indigenous people in their struggle to survive and flourish. Baptists and the Narragansett people now have a long history that include important figures like Princess Redwing who was a member of the Berean Baptist congregation in Harrisville. Now we encourage support for the efforts to relocate the Tomaquag Museum from Exeter to a site on the URI campus.
