Artist of the Month!

October 7 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm

The opening reception for the show is Friday, Oct. 7, from 5 to 7 p.m. Refreshments and light appetizers will be served at the reception. “As Halloween approaches, October is the perfect month to ask artists to produce works that are a bit out of the ordinary or a tad unsettling,” said Julie Paasch-Anderson, TLCFA gallery manager.

An hour before the opening reception, an origami bat make-and-take project will be held from 4 to 5 p.m. for school-aged children. The project welcomes younger people to the center for a little creative fun. Extra bats will be used to decorate the front window of the center, Paasch-Anderson said. The themed group show is a new endeavor for the center. “The show challenges artists to spread their creative wings and work outside their typical subject matter. Past and current artists have been invited to submit original works for the show,” She added.

More than 10 artists are participating in this first-ever event. The artists represent a variety of mediums that include painting, pottery, jewelry, photography and hand-crafted cards. “Each artist’s interpretation of the theme will reflect their personal style and art form. The subject matter can reflect a turbulent landscape or an eerily quiet photograph,” Paasch-Anderson said.

The invited artists include painters Sandra Cashman, Michael James, Vicki Morley, Theresa Griffin Ray and Pam Truog; potters Linda Woiak and Johanna Buwalda; jewelry designers Beverly Radford and Julie Paasch-Anderson; photographer Libby Scott; and card maker Robin Fleischer.

TLCFA is looking forward to presenting this group show that reflects the talent and diversity of our North Woods art community.

Chicago born Greg Cahill has been playing Bluegrass banjo since the early 1970s and co-founded The Special Consensus. Now rounding out the band are Dan Eubanks (bass), Greg Blake (guitar), and Michael Prewitt (mandolin), who are all creative without straying too far from their Bluegrass roots. Their vocals are spotless and their inventive arrangements are spot on!

In over 40 years of entertaining, we can’t come close to having enough room to list all their awards, recognition and accomplishments. We’re honored to have them!
