In looking ahead to next year, we have made a few revisions to the school handbook. I wanted to share a couple of the more significant changes with you. There are always some smaller updates, as well, so I encourage parents to read through the updated school handbook each year. It is posted under the "School Life" on the school website. Please remember that these changes go into effect for the 21-22 school year.
1. We will allow middle school students the option of the summer uniform (shorts and skorts which must meet specific lengths/style guidelines) before Thanksgiving and after Easter. The dress uniform should still be worn on designated days.
2. Parents picking up a student for an appointment at the end of the school day, should plan to pick up no later than 2:30pm. Pickups between 2:30 and 2:50 cause a lot of extra confusion and difficulty for the school during one our busiest times of the day.
We thank parents for your help in supporting the school guidelines at home, especially with the school uniform. We have such a wonderful community!

THIS WEDNESDAY, APRIL 21 AT 7PM will be our Zoom presentation to help educate our community about tax benefits of the Tax Credit program and how it creates scholarships for families who qualify. By attending this program you receive a volunteer hour AND for every guest you invite who attends, you get an additional PTO volunteer hour! The presentation will be put on by the McMahon Parater Scholarship Foundation at the Diocese for our SBCS community - and will include tax and accounting professionals to help answer your questions. Teacher Appreciation Week is May 3rd-7th!
Join us in our annual tradition of celebrating our wonderful faculty and staff. The PTO has planned a full week of fun activities for faculty, students and parents!
Monday- The SBCS School Board has graciously contributed to treating the staff to a morning treat to kick off the school week. The Local Cup Food Truck will be serving up hot coffee and pastries before school starts.
Tuesday- Have your student(s) create hand made notes of appreciation for their teachers and bring in a bloom or two to create a beautiful bouquet for them to enjoy.
Wednesday- An SBCS first! Wacky Wednesday is here! Join in on this $2.00 Tag Day by dressing up as your favorite faculty or staff member! Tag money that is collected will be donated to a charity selected by the staff.
Thursday- Take the night off from cooking with our first ever, Carline Dinner Pop Up! Enjoy Italian inspired fare from one of our own SBCS families: Polpetti. They will be donating dinners for the teachers, and this year parents can get in on the fun and order their own meals to be picked up after carline! Visit www.polpetticatering.com to view the special SBCS menu. Deadline to order is May 3rd. Additional details to follow.
Friday- To end the week, we would like to take a minute to pause and reflect on what a truly extraordinary year this has been and give thanks for the dedication of our entire school community for persevering through a year full of unknowns and doing it with much success. A Rosary will be prayed school wide during the day, and we are asking families to submit your own prayer intentions to be included during the Rosary and kept by the teachers to create a Spiritual Bouquet.
Last year, a new tradition was born out of the fact that when our virtual learning experience began we had no idea it would last for the rest of the year. The PTO created virtual picture collages for each grade level that were emailed to each teacher. We would like to continue this tradition, but with a framed collage to be gifted to each teacher.
To participate: Please send a picture of your student(s) with their names and grade levels to:
Please make sure to indicate name and grade level in the title of your email. Individual pictures are appreciated to make sure we capture each class. We have so many new faces this year and don't want to miss anyone!
SAVE THE DATE!
Mark your calendars for May 20th. The PTO is planning a special event, and we can't wait to share the details with you! Coming Soon!

New Family Orientation is scheduled for Wednesday, May 19th at 7pm over Zoom. The link will be emailed to you as we get closer to the date. Summertime Meet Ups - With Covid restrictions in place - we won't be able to have any in-school social events with our new families this Spring. HOWEVER...we WILL be scheduling some social events over the summer and around town so our parents and students can meet! Those events will be published HERE as soon as they are confirmed. Our PTO is working hard to identify some great locations for our meet ups that will be family FUN for one and all!

Book Fair begins THIS WEEK!

Comets are celebrating the beginnings of a lifelong love of reading and the culmination of our school Reading Challenge in two ways:
Second, April 26-30 is I LOVE TO READ WEEK at school. We will be doing little things each day to notice how good it is to be able to read. Here are things that parents can do from home to make the week special:
- Monday - browse the virtual book fair together
- Tuesday - pack a poem in your child's lunch bag
- Wednesday - write a note that describes a book you loved, and pack it in the lunch bag**
- Thursday - pack a joke or riddle in the lunch bag
- Friday - pack a Mad Libs style paragraph in the lunch bag
**On Wednesday, students may come to school dressed like a favorite book character!
The school-wide Reading Challenge ends April 30th. See the library page on the school website for information.

Taking Care of our Comet Family
|
|
Please remember that we are one community that is supportive and respectful. As in any year, from time to time teachers and students may be out of school. Please respect privacy and don't jump to conclusions. Whenever a member of the school community has a confirmed case of COVID-19, we will work with the Diocese and the Health Department to make sure close contacts are notified so they may take appropriate action inline with CDC guidance.
Also, here's some other helpful information:

CDC recommendations for gatherings.
