As you have probably guessed, we will not be able to hold our Grandparent's Day in-person this year, so it will look a little different. This is one of the highlights of the school year, so we will definitely miss seeing our grandparents on campus. In place of our normal Grandparent's Day, each class will send handwritten letters to their grandparents in the next couple weeks with some questions for grandparents to respond to. If your child's grandparents have passed away or are unavailable for some other reason, please select another special relative or friend they could write to. To help us with this activity, we ask each family to send a letter-sized, addressed, stamped envelope for each grandparent to your student's homeroom no later than Monday, October 26. Once again our Grandparent's Day will have the theme of "Patriotism" and will honor our grandparents who served in our armed forces. We would like to create a "Wall of Heroes" in our school with pictures of those family members who served or are still active duty. We ask our parents to help collect these pictures. To participate, please send in a photocopy or scanned picture to the school office with the student's name, name of the service member, their branch of service, and any other details you would like us to share. This will be a wonderful way for our school community to honor the sacrifices of those who went before us and left such an example of bravery and service.
From the Office of Catholic Schools
Please review the letter from Father Michael Boehling, Vicar General and Moderator of the Curia, concerning the summary report providing the findings of the Independent Reconciliation Program. As you may be aware, the Independent Reconciliation Program, announced in February, gave victim survivors an opportunity to receive monetary payment in a manner that is compassionate.
As was stated at the Program’s announcement, no Catholic school tuition dollars were used to fund the Program in any way. All tuition paid to our school stays at our school to offset our operating expenses.
From: Office of the Vicar General
Dear Diocesan Family,
His Excellency, Bishop Barry C. Knestout, announced in February an Independent Reconciliation Program (“Program”) as part of his promise that the diocese would expand its healing ministry to further assist victim survivors of clergy sexual abuse in the Diocese of Richmond. The Program was administered by an independent and nationally recognized firm specializing in claims administration.
Today, the diocese published a summary report providing the findings of the Independent Reconciliation Program. The report, a letter from Bishop Knestout, and other details about the Independent Reconciliation Program can be found at https://assistance.richmonddiocese.org.
Please know of my daily prayers for you and for all who work and minister in our diocese.
Sincerely in our Lord,
Very Reverend Michael G. Boehling
Vicar General and Moderator of the Curia

Halloween Movie Night is This Saturday!
|
|
We are inviting all SBCS families to join us for a little bit of fun for Halloween.
Due to COVID-19 we will not be able to hold our beloved FallFest tradition this year. However, with physical distancing and strict adherence to our health and safety protocols, we are planning an outdoor movie night on the blacktop. The event will be a double feature starting at 6:00pm for families with smaller children and a second show time at 8:00pm for families with older kids. We will show a movie, offer refreshments, and give the kids a chance to "trick or treat" after the movie has finished.
ALL TICKETS FOR ATTENDING AND FOOD PURCHASES MUST BE MADE IN ADVANCE. Click on the movie below to sign up! Seating is limited - don't wait!

Comet Shop Coordinator
The PTO is in search of a Comet Shop Coordinator. Our Comet Shop is a great resource for parents to shop for spirit wear, school supplies and a fun little place for our kids to snag items like small toys, pencils and other items.
Typically the Comet Shop Coordinator will open and staff the Shop on select Fridays during the lunch period to allow kids a time to come in and shop. They also work to ensure we have supplies purchased and stocked.
Right now, this position is being remotely handled and supply ordering is being done online. Currently we need the Coordinator to work to procure Spirit Wear items as well as coordinate ordering for those items.
Please email YOURSBCSPTO@gmail.com for additional questions or if you are interested in filling the role.

New Date for Volunteer Day at SBCS!
|
|
Attention Families - we have lots of opportunities coming up to earn your PTO volunteer hours (remember - 20 hours per family for the school year). This is an important way we support our school community. Due to the rain, we had to move our clean up/painting work to the new date of Oct. 31st. On that day we'll be taking care of some outdoor projects including staining benches, painting hopscotch stencils and playground equipment and doing some yard work! Click here to see how you can pitch in! Shout outs to PTO leadership Juliet D'Agostino and Kevin Clark for helping to organize these events!
All families are responsible for entering their own volunteer hours in our ParentsWeb system. For information about how to do that, please click here!
