Dear Emmaus Families,
As we continue to process the horrible event in Monterey Park on Saturday night, please join us as we lift up in prayer the families and friends of those involved.
We know that incidents like this can affect us and our children in different ways. Please be aware of how your children are processing this and talk to them in a manner appropriate for their age and ability to understand. Assure them that you are looking out for them and doing the best you can to keep them safe. Let them talk about what they know and encourage them to ask any questions they have. Listen and respond with love and understanding. Help them feel compassion and care for others without fear. Pray with them.
Remind them that God loves them. This world does not make sense. What does make sense is that God is in control; He has not forgotten us, and He loves us. He showed us that love on the cross.
If we at Emmaus can be of any help to you or your family, please let us know. We encourage you to read the message from Pastor Jow that will be sent in a separate email. It is what he shared with his congregation yesterday at church.
While we mourn with those who face loss and tragedy, we continue in God’s grace with the blessings of our community at Emmaus and all that it brings.
We thank Pastor Jow for teaching us about the disciple Matthew in chapel last week. It was also good to see so many parents join us also! After Chapel we handed out our 2nd Quarter character and academic awards.
Our basketball teams did great this week, winning all of their games. I enjoy watching them, particularly how hard they work and what good sports they are!
In case you missed the email last week, we are looking forward to having a booth at the Alhambra Lunar New Year Festival this coming Sunday, January 29. We would love for you to stop by and see us and if you could sign up for a shift to help be in the booth–that would be wonderful! You may sign up using this link: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/5080948AFAE2BA20-alhambra
Also, we are looking forward to our students singing in church this Sunday. Please see the flyer your student will bring home today for more information.
We hope to see you for Spirit Night tonight at Shakey’s in Alhambra between 4:00 and 7:00 p.m.! The money raised will help Mrs. Hart’s 3rd grade class and financial aid.
Please be sure to read all of the information below.
Blessings as we continue to SOAR!
Mrs. Spiva
