Comet Connection

Dear Emmaus Families

Thank you so much for your generosity last week with your chapel offerings! We were able to send over $700 (and a few gift cards) to Florida to help those who were victims of Hurricane Ian. It is so nice to see our Emmaus Community reach out to help others–great job!

As you know, Friday was the end of the 1st Quarter, and we have Parent/Teacher Conferences this Thursday afternoon and Friday morning. This conference is important to be able to connect with your child’s teacher and discuss the progress your student is making. Thank you to those who have already signed up to meet with your child’s teacher(s). If you have not signed up yet, please see the links below. Please remember that students are dismissed at noon on Thursday and have no school on Friday.

Thank you to all of our amazing helpers for the Book Fair; we couldn’t have done it without you! And thank you for purchasing books for our classroom libraries!

Remember that on Sunday, October 23 at 9:00 a.m., our students get to sing again in church. They have been working so hard on learning their songs, and it is such a gift to be able to hear all of them together. Thank you in advance for making sure they are here for that.

Our next Spirit Night is Monday, October 24 at Raising Cane’s in Alhambra from 4:30-7:30.

We are observing Red Ribbon Week the week of October 24-28. Please see more specific information below. We are using this week to help students remember to keep their bodies healthy and stay away from drugs.

Blessings on your week as we continue to Soar!

Mrs. Spiva

Thank you to Mrs. Marousek and her 8th graders for their chapel message this week on the Israelites and Pharaoh and the 10 Plagues. They reminded us that just as the blood of a lamb saved the Israelites from death in the tenth plague, the blood of the Lamb, Jesus, saves us from eternal death, forgives us from all of our sins, and brings us eternal life with him in heaven. This Wednesday, 4th grade will be presenting chapel; you are always welcome to our chapel services.

"Some schools have been facing teacher shortages. But one teacher at Emmaus Lutheran School in Alhambra has no plans to leave her job.

Regi Hart has been teaching since 1964. The 80-year-old teaches the third grade, choir, hand bells, cheer and more. She said when she first started her job, teaching was a coveted career. Hart still loves it all these years later and has no plans to slow down. She has had her own children in her classroom and is now teaching her grandkids."

EDC on Thursday, not Friday–Due to Parent/Teachers Conferences on October 20 and 21, Thursday is a minimum day and students are dismissed at noon. Extended Day Care is offered per usual, until 6:30 p.m. On Friday, there is no school for students and no Extended Day Care will be offered that day.

Students should wear Chapel Dress and worship dancers (girls in grades 3-5 should wear whites).

Minimum Day on Thursday and No School on Friday for Parent/Teacher Conferences

This Thursday school will be dismissed at 12:00 (no hot lunch), and EDC will be available at cost.  Friday there will be no school and no EDC.

Mark your calendars for our Fall Festival coming up on Friday, October 28th from 3:00-6:00 p.m. This is such a fun event that we enjoy every year! This year's theme is "Western Roundup" so students and families are encouraged to dress in their western duds! Each class sets up game booths and prepares food to sell. You purchase items with "tickets" that will be sold at the Fall Festival--4 tickets for $1. All proceeds go to our Student Council. You do not want to miss this special event!

Kindergarteners enjoyed Apple tasting and Mrs. Spiva was able to visit and help! Our 7th-8th graders got to have their Fall Ball and they had a wonderful time!

This week we have our LAST HOME Volleyball and Football games--come out and cheer us on!
