Comfort!!! 8/14/24
2 Corinthians 1:3-4 (KJV)
3 Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort;
4 Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.
I spent the entire day yesterday at a hospital in DOWNTOWN Atlanta while my dear wife underwent a surgical procedure. She is having a series of “throat stretching” due to a narrowing of the esophagus from radiation therapy.
The procedure dragged late and I found myself people watching.
The preacher who married my wife and I 51 years ago was an old Southern Baptist minister.
He testified that he often drove down to the inner city hospital in Atlanta-GRADY HOSPITAL-simply to spend a weekend night in its ER.
Just observing the incredible throng of pain and suffering endured by so many HUMBLED him and made him more aware of his BLESSINGS!!!!!!!!!!
As I “endured” my “pain and suffering” of waiting I encountered a couple of women attempting to get their husband and dad into the men's restroom. He was wheelchair bound and since of the other gender I volunteered to escort him into the restroom.
When we finally got him back into his wheelchair I inquired how old he was?
He was ONE YEAR older than me!!!!!!!!!!!
Matthew 9:36-38 (KJV)
36 But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd.
37 Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few;
38 Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest.
Just as our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ did while here on this earth physically, WE are called to be “moved with compassion” on others less fortunate as us!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How well do I remember a younger Christian remarking to me several years ago with these words:
“Never ask a blind man with the words “CAN'T YOU SEE????”
The most frustrating thing when dealing with my brain injured daughter is her inability to control her social interactions and her inability to communicate her needs and responses to simple inquiries.
But when dealing with others one MUST put themselves in THEIR shoes and attempt to see/live life from their perspective!!!!!
To be brutally honest, a blind man CANNOT see!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OUR wonderful Lord and Savior Jesus Christ WELL knows and FULLY understands human misery and suffering!!!!

My dear “son in the Lord,” the renowned REV./DR. Smith is a former inmate of the penal system. He “served” 7 years of his “time” incarcerated and now has a DEEP, DEEP love and CALLING to others of like sentencing!!!
He IS “touched with the feeling” as he WAS “in all points tempted” as they. His favorite Scripture is the one I began with:
