KIM'S CORNER

According to Irish legends, people lucky enough to find and capture a leprechaun can barter his freedom for his treasure. Leprechauns are usually said to be able to grant the person three wishes.

We don't always have three wishes to hand out here at the Library, but something is always happening. For example, we don't have leprechauns running around Comfort, but we do have Turkeys. We all had fun and smiles just watching the Turkeys walk around town, and I have to say only one knew how to use the crosswalk. The other two were lucky not to get run over. But there is so much more happening here at the Library than watching turkeys crossing the road. We have American Sign Language (Tuesday evenings) and computer classes (Wednesdays). Give the Library a call for information 830-995-2398.

What else is happening here at the Library (THANK YOU, KERRY FROM HCTC, for asking and asking when the Peeps were coming back)? The Peeps contest is back! So, everybody, put your thinking caps on and get your Peep's dioramas ready—more information at the bottom of the newsletter.

I hope all of you have a lucky March month and ask yourself why the turkey crossed the road. 😊

Even if you remember to wear green on March 17, you'll still get a "pinch" of humor from these funny St. Patrick's Day jokes:

Tim: How can you tell if a leprechaun likes your joke?

Rob: How?

Tim: He's Dublin over with laughter!

Joke submitted by Tim S., Biloxi, Miss.

Jon: How can you tell if a potato is not from Ireland?

Sami: Not sure.

Jon: When it's a French fry.

The joke was submitted by Jon J., Redland, Calif.

WHAT'S NEW FOR MARCH

Spring is just around the corner and what better time to read about rejuvenating soil, kitchen basics, grieving and Old West murder trials than this month? And regarding timely reading…we are moving to a new inter-library loan system! To give us time to “clean house” with the present system, ILL requests will be suspended until mid-April. In the meanwhile, though, check out the following reads!

FOR THE LOVE OF SOIL: STRATEGIES TO REGENERATE OUR FOOD PRODUCTION SYSTEMS by Nicole Masters → fungi ; nematodes ; good worms ; weeds (or not)

KITCHEN MATTERS by Pamela Salzman → recipes and tips to make food wholesome, nourishing and unforgettable

“SO SORRY FOR YOUR LOSS” by Dina Gachman → how to grieve ; how to live with loss ; how to stay connected to those we miss

GREAT MURDER TRIALS OF THE OLD WEST by Johnny D. Boggs → accused criminals ; fair trials ; John Wesley Hardin and others

NEWS FROM THE FRIENDS OF COMFORT PUBLIC LIBRARY:

Help wanted:

The Book Barn still needs:

  • Volunteers to staff the Barn even one or two hours on Saturdays. If we get enough volunteers we would be able to open on other days.
  • Organizing and displaying the books could be done for a few hours on days other than Saturdays.
  • Researching the value of older books online could also be done any day as well as done from home.

If you're interested in helping out our "Friends" support group, give the Library a call and we'll connect you with them!

The 3rd Saturday is now "Comfort Reads" featuring our "Comfort Zone" book club and "Literary Saturday" featuring books read and signed by a Texas-based author!

In February, "Literary Saturday" features noted

8th Generation Texas author

Ben H. English

This month's "Comfort Zone" Book Club selection is Lamb, the Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal by Christopher Moore.

The birth of Jesus has been well chronicled, as have his glorious teachings, acts, and divine sacrifice after his thirtieth birthday. But no one knows about the early life of the Son of God, the missing years — except Biff, the Messiahs best bud, who has been resurrected to tell the story in the divinely hilarious yet heartfelt work “reminiscent of Vonnegut and Douglas Adams”
