COMFORT BEARS BRING RELIEF TO SINGLE MOM
THE MINISTRY OF PRESENCE IN THE MIDST OF THE STORM
Today has been a powerful and emotional day on the ground in Kerrville as the Hill Country flood response continues to unfold. First responders from across Texas and around the nation are arriving to lend their strength—from fire departments in San Antonio, Dallas, and neighboring counties to chaplains with Foursquare Disaster Relief all the way from the Pacific Northwest. Their presence is bringing tangible hope to communities still reeling from unimaginable loss.
Amidst the coordination of resources and response teams, one special moment today reminded us why this work matters so deeply. Corey Stark, part of the Somebody Cares team, had the privilege of delivering a large box of Somebody Cares Bears—small stuffed animals used to comfort children and adults affected by traumatic events—to Real Life Fellowship, pastored by Ryan and Nicole Huff. Just minutes after the delivery, a young single mother with two small children arrived in need of prayer, counseling, and emotional support.
Pastor Ryan described the shift as immediate. The children, who had been visibly withdrawn from the trauma they’d endured, lit up the moment they saw the bears and hugged them tightly. Within minutes, they were willing to go with a few of the lady chaplains to play—giving their mom a moment of peace and the space to receive personal ministry and care.
It was a sacred reminder that even the smallest gestures of care can open doors for healing and restoration.
In addition this providential delivery of comfort bears at just the right time, your partnership has helped us:
- Support relief partner CRI with transporting their team, tools, and supplies needed for mucking out homes in the community of Hunt.
- Purchase sheet rock for at least one home that will be gutted and ready for installation this weekend.
-
Donate First Responder and Behind the Badge devotionals to local churches and chaplains to distribute to those who have been enduring the challenge of search and rescue efforts.
-
Provide Leadership Awakening and Mending the Net books to minister to local leaders in need of encouragement.
- Direct three truckloads of cleaning supplies, household items, and non-perishable food products to a partner's warehouse in Boerne to be distributed through churches to families in need.
- Direct a truckload of building supplies to help a church partner in San Angelo with long-term recovery.
-
Provide logistical and moral support to pastors in the area through the ministry of presence, with some of our team being present to encourage, pray, and strategize how to coordinate manpower and resources.
Thank you to everyone who continues to pray, give, and serve.
Your support is making a difference—one heart, one family, one community at a time.
