Dear Dr. Manitoba,

This Monday, physicians’ remuneration will receive an increase under our new Physician Services Agreement (PSA) and a number of new tariffs will become available.

All physicians will benefit from an across-the-board 2% increase to all fee-for-service tariffs and alternate-funded agreements on April 1.

In addition, a number of new tariffs will be available, including:

For physicians offering virtual visits to patients in rural or northern Manitoba, we have negotiated a new geographic premium based on where the physician and the patient are located. This means physicians in Winnipeg offering virtual visits to patients in rural or Northern Manitoba will now have access to a geographic premium.

There is also more to come thanks to this new PSA. This year, we will be launching a bigger and better rebate for your continuing professional development expenses. Physicians committed to serving rural and northern communities will have access to a new Rural Retention Benefit, with the first payment expected in 2026. Of course, all tariffs and remuneration will increase by 2% again in 2025 and 2026. Work is also continuing on reducing administrative burdens, and on setting up processes to consider and respond to requests for new tariffs in a much more timely way.

These positive steps forward build on earlier improvements that flowed from the PSA. This includes market adjustments on October 1 that brought all tariffs and alternate funded groups up to the Ontario Prairie Average or better. All physicians practicing as of the ratification date received a $21,000 Special Retention Payment. Our Maternity and Parental Benefit increased. Plus, over 100 new tariffs were added last October to better support the care you provide to Manitobans, including communication tariffs, eConsultation, hospital visit premiums, extended visits for multiple concerns, and more.

While there is a lot to celebrate in this Physician Services Agreement – it is the largest ever for Manitoba – no one got everything they wanted. After years of fiscal restraint, health system changes and a pandemic, there is a large accumulation of issues and concerns that physicians still need to see addressed. There is still more to press for. We want to reassure you that our team at Doctors Manitoba take this seriously. They are tracking your concerns and suggestions, and they are pursuing the resources and support you need, every step of the way.

Please continue to contact our Practice Advice and Compensation team with your concerns or questions at practiceadvice@doctorsmanitoba.ca.

Thank you for your continued service to Manitobans and the exceptional care you offer them.

Sincerely,

Dr. Michael Boroditsky

President
