Prescribed Fire Training


Join the Sandhills Task Force and Partners to learn how to implement prescribed fire on your property.

Experienced prescribed fire practitioners will mentor participants on implementing prescribed fire, from lighting the match to mopping up.


Skills to be covered:

  • Ignition devices and patterns
  • Wet lining and other holding techniques
  • How to communicate effectively using radios
  • What to expect before, during, and after a burn
  • Understanding and reading the fire environment


Please come prepared to work with live fire. This includes natural fiber long sleeves, pants, leather gloves, close-toed leather shoes, and a hat. (Fire-resistant (nomex) shirts will be available if needed/wanted). No previous fire experience is required.


Training time is approximate and may change based on weather conditions. You will be kept informed of any changes. When registering, please indicate your preferred communication method. Attendance is free. Water and a meal will be provided.

Prescribed Burn Meeting

An informational Prescribed Burn Association meeting has been scheduled for April 3, 2025, at 6:30 pm at the Stapleton Community Center in Stapleton, NE.

Everyone is welcome to attend to gauge if there is enough interest in forming a prescribed burn association. A meal will be served.
