October will be a busy month for local women's history! Join us to learn more about an iconic poster given to women in Grand Rapids who registered to vote in 1919, Negro Baseball Leagues owner Minnie Forbes, and the local League of Women Voters early history and partnership with Betty Ford in the fight for the ERA

West Michigan Genealogical Society program, Grand Rapids Public Library, main branch, 1:30 p.m., October 5. GGRWHC Board President Ruth Stevens will share her research on how this poster was used in early voter registration efforts after women won full voting rights in Michigan in 1918 and delve into the mystery of who owned it and how and where it was distributed.

Kent District Library presents The Negro Leagues, the Detroit Stars and Minnie Forbes, October 8, 6:30 p.m., Wyoming branch, 3350 Michael SW. Also on view at the Grand Rapids Public Library main branch is "For the Love of the Game" a related exhibit on the Negro Leagues, Detroit Tigers, and all-female Grand Rapids Chicks.

GGRWHC joins with the League of Women Voters of the Greater Grand Rapids Area and the Gerald R. Ford Museum to present noted historian Liette Gidlow, the author of The Big Vote. Gidlow will explore the early history of the League in Grand Rapids and trace the evolution of the historic partnership between the League and First Lady Betty Ford in the fight for women's rights.
