During this Black History Month we welcome you back to our 3rd Tuesday dinner and conversation gathering to listen to a bit of the story of Virginia's own Martha Ann Fields, an enslaved Black woman, as she recounts the night she escaped to freedom with her eight children.

Evicted: Poverty and Profit in the American City by Matthew Desmond
Emancipation was followed by one hundred more years of institutionalized subjugation through the enactment of Black Codes and Jim Crow laws, peonage, convict leasing, domestic terrorism and lynching. Today the violations continue, and when combined with the crimes of the past, they result in yet unmeasured injury.

Paradox of Liberty - Slavery at
Jefferson's Monticello

Members of the CTTT Movie Circle will visit the Black History Museum and Cultural Center of Virginia, 122 West Leigh Street on February 22, 2020 to view the exhibit Paradox of Liberty - Slavery at Jefferson's Monticello .

The tour of the exhibit will begin at 1:00pm and end at 2:30 pm. Lunch (simple menu) and discussion of the exhibit will be at Nutty Buttery, 701 West Clay Street, afterwards.
