Dear Parents,
Happy Catholic Schools’ Week. I look forward to seeing you at our open house tomorrow night.
I want to especially thank all of you who attended the parish Mass on Sunday. It is so important
that our parishioners get to see how well our students comport themselves as readers and as
active participants in Mass.
No doubt you have noticed the new speed bumps in the lane leading up to preschool. Lately it
has been necessary for the safety of our students and staff to slow down the traffic. The following
is a plea for safety from Kathleen Aymar, who directs traffic after school every day.
Dear St. Rose Families,
I have been directing traffic at daily dismissal for many years. Throughout the years I have been witness to various types of driving techniques, some safe and some risky for the students, the drivers, and for me, but still I have always felt safe. Yesterday, however, was the first time I truly became afraid for my own safety. Two cars came close to hitting me as their drivers ignored my directions. I do acknowledge that those drivers may have perceived it differently but, the reality is I am standing in the middle of the road with 1,000 pound moving vehicles in close proximity to me. The drivers of these cars are safely ensconced within their cars.
My plea to all of you is to please slow down, do not stop in the crosswalk, and only drive forward when I clearly signal you. If perhaps my gestures might occasionally seem confusing please wait and I will clearly define them for you so that you can comfortably and safely proceed.
Most drivers are sensitive to my presence and to that of the students. However, a few inattentive drivers can make it frightening. My first responsibility is the safety of your precious children (one I take very seriously) as I know it is yours. Please be patient with me, I am not perfect. Some of you may not agree with my directions but, these directions have worked successfully for years and will continue to do so if we all work as a team. PLEASE share this will Grandparents, babysitters, and ALL those who pick up your children.
I truly appreciate your patience and kindness during this process.
Kathleen Aymar
