Hello, Brooklyn!
This last week was a whirlwind of celebration. We had our first ever Maternal Health Expo at Brooklyn Borough Hall this Saturday and were honored to host Disability Pride Month at Borough Hall earlier in the week on Tuesday. I was also excited to give away $20,000 to Magnolia Tree Earth Center to support their efforts to save the organization and repair the building. Learn more about them here: https://www.magnoliatreeearthcenter.org/.
In transportation news: last Thursday, I joined elected officials and advocates at City Hall to call for Mayor Adams to move forward with DOT's proposal for McGuinness Boulevard to keep our most vulnerable commuters safe. And today, I released an op-ed on City & State calling on the State of New York to support BQGreen, an over-a-decade-in-the-making plan to deck over a portion of the six-lane sunken highway that cuts through Williamsburg and top it with 3.5 acres of green space in our park-starved neighborhood.
This week, remember to attend our ongoing free Paramount+ Movie Nights in the parks showing again this Thursday, July 20 at 6PM at Fort Greene Park, made possible by Brooklyn Magazine and the Fort Greene Conservancy. Up this week, Indian Telugu-language epic 'RRR' retelling two revolutionaries friendship and fight against the British Raj!
Finally, check out and spread the word about the Brooklyn Construction Career and Training Resource Fair next Monday, July 24 from 11AM to 4 PM at Brooklyn Borough Hall! Come with your resume and ready to meet employers in the construction field.
Have a great week, Brooklyn. And don’t forget to spread love; it’s the Brooklyn way!
Antonio Reynoso
Brooklyn Borough President
