Every Sunday, many of you wear a name tag when you come to church. Thank you for doing so! It has helped me, and all of our staff, learn names more quickly because of that. But name tags go beyond helping our staff learn names. They’re a great way to help visitors feel at home and welcomed here, because they help them learn names, too. We have had many visitors to worship, to bible studies, and other events recently. It also helps create an atmosphere of camaraderie among our membership, especially if we recognize someone, may want to strike up a conversation, but feel embarrassed for not remembering their name! I’ve certainly experienced that myself.
Then, there are deeper reasons, too. When we see someone who is upset or otherwise struggling, name tags help us address that person by name as we seek to comfort and provide the peace of Christ. When you come forward to receive communion, I call you by name, if I know your name, as a sign of Christ’s call to each of us as we receive of the grace offered at the Table. Calling each other by name is a way of being reminded, through our fellowship and worship together, that God calls us by name.
As such, we have opportunity! Linked below is an order form to get a magnetic name tag to wear when you are at church for any event. We’ll install two magnetic boards, one near the atrium doors and one off the narthex, hidden from view of course, to leave your name tag when you’re not here. As you arrive to church, grabbing your donut and coffee most likely, you’ll also be able to grab your name tag. These are $10 each and we will handle ordering them for you. Just fill out the form with your name as you would want it printed and then make payment online. Please have orders completed by March 16 (one week) so that we can get the order in. Note: if you have a name tag you like and wear regularly, there’s no need to get a new one, unless you’d just like one!
Wearing our name tags is great for visitors, it’s great for each other, and it can even be encouraging for our faith. See you Sunday!
