Love Your Neighbor!

For the month of October, our theme is LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR!

Love for our neighbors is a foundational piece of Christianity. But who are our neighbors? And what does it mean to love them? This month we will be reading stories that help us think about these questions.

Our first story jumps right in! This week we are sharing Who is My Neighbor? by Sandy Eisenberg Sasso and Amy-Jill Levine, two wonderful authors of spiritual children's books. In this story, there are two groups of creatures: the Yellows and the Blues. The Blues mistrust the Yellows and the Yellows mistrust the Blues, but one day, Midnight Blue falls off his bicycle... uh oh! Only Lemon, one of the Yellows, comes to help him. Can he trust Lemon?

Midnight Blue and Lemon discover that they are not as different as they were led to believe and learn to be friends! This story can teach us that no matter how different we are, we can still be neighbors-- we can still support, learn from, help, and love each other!

In God's Hands

Sunday School is October 4!

The first Sunday in October is World Communion Sunday.

At Peace UCC, we usually celebrate communion once a month. Some churches celebrate every week, every few months, or once a year. On World Communion Sunday, all churches celebrate communion! We will celebrate communion together and learn about different communion practices and eat different kinds of bread.

We'll also read In God's Hands by Lawrence Kushner and Gary Schmidt. In this story, something mysterious happens when Jacob leaves bread on the altar-- it disappears! Something mysterious also happens when David visits the altar-- there is bread for him!

In chasing miracles, Jacob and David learn how to be the hands and feet of God. Caring for one another is the real miracle!

We had fun at Kids' Night Out!

Our next KNO is Friday, October 16!

Kids' Night out is a fun night for kiddos at Peace! We gather from 6 - 8 p.m. on the third Friday of the month to make personal pizzas, play games, do a craft, and read a story together.

It's also a great opportunity for parents to go on a date or take a break!

Blessing the Beasts: Sunday October 18

Each year we celebrate our animal neighbors and family by inviting them to church for a special blessing! You are invited to bring your furry, feathered, and/or scaly family members to church on October 18 to be blessed! You may also bring a photo if bringing your animal(s) is too difficult. It's a fun day to see many people's animals at church and to remember how important animals are in our lives.

Here's a short video from last year's blessing:

Sundae Sunday

After worship

With current pledges totalling $271,258.11, we have achieved a balanced budget for the first time in many years. Thank you, beloved church community, for your generosity and commitment to our mission and ministries.

To celebrate our success, we will hold a “Sunday Sundae” - that is, an ice cream feast, after worship on Sunday, October 18. This is also the Sunday of Blessing of the Beasts, so we hope to see lots of families (and pets) that day.
