Coming to Del Mar Aug. 5-10:
Del Mar International Composers Symposium

A vibrant addition to Del Mar's cultural life arrives August 5-10 with the inaugural season of the Del Mar International Composers Symposium (DMICS), which will provide emerging composers from around the world a space to collaborate on the creation and presentation of new works, while inviting the public to experience the artistic process first-hand.

Events open to the public inlude two open rehearsals and composers presentations (free of charge), and the Premieres Concert at St. Peter's Episcopal Church ( tickets here) featuring the works of the participating composers, with performances by The Hausmann Quartet, one of Southern California's finest chamber ensembles.

The Hausmann Quartet
The Del Mar Foundation is delighted to support DMICS with a $5000 grant to underwrite the week-long participation of The Hausmann Quartet as the Ensemble-in-Residence, collaborating with the composers and performing at the  Premieres Concert where the works of the participating composers will be performed.

DMICS' director, Del Mar native Jordan Kuspa, is a composer whose music has been praised in the New York Times as "animated and melodically opulent" and "consistently alive and inspired." Kuspa's vision for the future of DMICS is for it to become a world-class destination for composers to develop and share their work, while also providing the Del Mar community with an annual celebration of the best in contemporary classical music.

Our Grant and Fiscal Sponsorship

The Del Mar Foundation is pleased to announce that it is supporting DMICS not only with a $5,000 grant underwriting the Hausmann Quartet's participation, but also with fiscal sponsorship.

A long tradition of fiscal sponsorship by the Foundation has allowed new community groups and projects to benefit from  our extensive fiscal expertise, allowing them to focus on fundraising and project implementation without being overwhelmed by financial management and tax concerns. It also allows donors to earmark donations for a project they are passionate about, to amplify the Foundation's direct grant support. Prior examples of such fiscal sponsorship and seed money support include Del Mar Community Connections, Del Mar Historical Society, the James Hubbell sculpture in front of the Del Mar Library, and Powerhouse restoration.
