The SC Governor’s office has approved the opening of the 28th annual Battle of Aiken Living History Festival In Aiken, SC, to be held Feb. 25-27, 2022, rain or shine. The gates open at 9 AM each day. This will be the 157th anniversary of one of the last Confederate victories of the War. This living history event has won numerous awards, including past recognition by the SC Parks, Recreation, & Tourism Department as the Best South Carolina Tourist Event.
The event is a must-see for children who will experience history coming alive during a weekend of Civil War battles, demonstrations, tours, displays, music, crafts, food, and music. Spectators can tour the historic log cabin, one-room schoolhouse, jail, mercantile building, and soldier’s camps. There will be food and drink vendors available, including delicious southern BBQ. Three battles will be recreated: 11:30 and 2:30 on Saturday and 2:30 on Sunday.
Visitors can also interact with historians dressed in authentic uniforms from all American military war periods (Colonial through the Gulf Wars) at the Military Timeline Presentation that honors all veterans.
