Effective September 29, 2018, Ohio expanded its list of elder abuse mandatory reporters to include licensed real estate agents and brokers. Mandatory reporters are required to report when they have a reasonable belief that an adult is being abused or is in a condition that is the result of abuse. Perpetrators of elder abuse can include the adults themselves, family, friends, acquaintances or complete strangers. Identifying elder abuse can be difficult as there are several potential indicators and the perpetrators are commonly known and trusted acquaintances of the victim.
