Aldea had a busy fall with events in the community! We held our 3rd annual Suicide Prevention & Awareness Conference, certified 20 people in our community to deliver QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer) gatekeeper training for those who may be suicidal, and unveiled our first Courage to Change a Life Award at our Change A Life gala held September 27th at Blue Note Napa.
On Thursday September 27, 2018 $115k was raised at our Change A Life gala held at Blue Note Napa. We were excited to unveil our Inaugural Courage to Change A Life award to Michelle and Steve Kiefer for their commitment to grow their family through fostering and adoption, along with their leadership engaging an entire community of people who have followed their example and become “forever families” for children in need.

On September 21, 2018 Aldea held its third annual Suicide Prevention and Awareness Conference at the Meritage Resort and Spa in Napa, CA. 300 attendees listened to keynote speaker Kevin Berthia share his story of hope after he was saved from jumping from the Golden Gate Bridge. The conference this year was a full day of workshops for attendees to hear personal stories from families touched by suicide, gatekeeper training on QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer) and many other topics including art therapy, meditation and learning how to speak to your teens about mental health. On October 3, 2018 Aldea was acknowledged with several community organizations by the Napa Valley Community Foundation and The Doctors Company for our efforts as second responders during the fires of October 2017. Aldea received an award and a check for $5,000 from The Doctors Company Donor Advised fund in support of these efforts. To view more photos click here
On September 22, 2018, through the Napa County Suicide Prevention Council, Stan Collins, co-author of Know The Signs Training Resource Guide for Suicide Prevention, trained 20 community members to become certified QPR Trainers for our community. The Question, Persuade, Refer gatekeeper training is an evidenced based training to help teach the community how to help someone in a mental health crisis, similar to being ready with CPR for a physical health crisis. This group of people is now able to train the staff at their organizations as well as others in Napa County on the QPR gatekeeper training.
