Sunday Reflection
January 16, 2022
2nd Sunday of Ordinary Time
“To each individual the manifestation of the Spirit is given for some benefit.” (1 Corinthians 12:7)
St. Paul tells us that God has blessed each of us for a reason. How has God blessed you? Are you using your gifts according to God’s plan? How are you helping to build God’s kingdom here on earth? Remember that if you don’t do the work God planned for you, no one else can do it. Live the life God has intended for you. Take time to discern your charisms (gifts from the Holy Spirit). Experience the supernatural Peace and Joy God desires for each of us.

Welcome into the Catholic Church
On Sunday, December 12th at the 9am mass, Good Shepherd Catholic Community welcomed four individuals into the Catholic Church. All had participated in the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA), a process of conversion and study in the Catholic faith for catechumens and candidates coming into full communion with the Church.
Catechumen, Nathan Boyea (pictured in white robe), who had never been baptized, received Baptism, Confirmation and First Communion. Candidates, Steve Evans, Lynda Harris and Sage Goldsmith, who had already been baptized in another Christian tradition and whose baptism was already recognized by the Catholic Church, each entered the Church through a Profession of Faith and Reception of Confirmation and the Eucharist.
Along with Fr. Michael, Fr. Ron (pictured), and all the Friars, please welcome from L-R: Steve Evans, Nathan Boyea, Lynda Harris and Sage Goldsmith.
After Catechumens and Candidates come into the Church, they are encouraged to write a Statement of Faith which chronicles their individual journey to becoming Catholic. Watch for these, along with their photos, in upcoming newsletters – they are truly inspiring.
Please continue to pray for and encourage these individuals. They continue to need your example, support, welcome, and prayers. To Christ be the glory now and forever!

St. Junipero Serra Courses Available
The following is a description about this initiative, according to the diocese's website:
Our Catholic faith requires us to embark on a continual call to conversion. One steeped in the mystery of Christ and His Church. It is with this pastoral understanding that the Diocese of Fort Worth desires to foster and engage this call to conversion through the development of our new program, St. Junipero Serra Institute (SJSI).
The objective of the St. Junipero Serra Institute (SJSI) is to prepare the laity to be effective witnesses of the Gospel within their parish communities. Through the application of a faithful and effective evangelization and catechetical process rooted in the Gospel of Jesus Christ the laity will have the opportunity to grow in their faith while at the same time discover new and practical ways of communicating their faith. St. John Paul II reminds of the important mission of placing emphasis on building an intimate relationship with Jesus Christ through sound catechetical instruction. (CT, 5, 20)
One of the main tenets of the institute is to assist the laity in developing and forming a mature faith; one that is rooted in sacred Tradition and sacred Scripture and affirmed through the Catechism of the Catholic Church. Through the various catechetical courses offered by the Institute the lay faithful will have the opportunity to develop a mature faith in Christ and His Church. In concert with the tenets of the Deposit of Faith we look towards the Catechism of the Catholic Church as the seminal tool in assisting the faithful to grow in their daily understanding and application of the Catholic faith.
In keeping with the Church’s mission to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ (Mt 28:17-20) the (SJSI) will offer a two method approach of teaching the fundamentals of sound evangelization practices in relation to the courses taught and providing the catechetical methodology to complete this task.

Catholic Respect Life Monthly Meeting
Tuesday, January 18
6:45pm - St. John Bosco
The mission of The Respect Life Ministry of Good Shepherd Catholic Community is to support the Diocese of Fort Worth in encouraging all people to respect life from conception to natural death. We meet the 3rd Tuesday of every month at 6:45pm to come together as a parish community to further the work of Christ's Gospel through our outreach to our larger community for all LIFE issues. We partner with local entities to respect life through programs and events throughout the year. "Every basic human right draws its authoritative force from the natural law, which confers it and attaches to it its respective duty. Hence, to claim one 's rights and ignore one 's duties, or only half fulfill them, is like building a house with one hand and tearing it down with the other.” ― Pope John XXIII
