What's new with Senior Services?
Artists, age 55 or better, are invited to display 2-D artwork in September. Entries are due by Aug. 27.

We invite the entire community to enjoy these pieces located at the Lafayette Senior Center during September. This event is a showcase of the fantastic artists in our community and not a juried show. Artists will be honored at the Artist Reception on Friday, Oct. 1, at 6pm.

Panera Bread is back every Wednesday.
Every Wednesday at 10:30am, stop by and pick up Panera Bread at the Senior Center. Donations vary from week to week. Call ahead at 303-665-9052.

Lunch Buddies

Memory Games - Starts in September

Learn & share tips and tricks for enhancing your memory while enjoying some fun memory games and interacting with others in a fun, safe environment.

Are you in need of a computer? Visit the Senior Center, where a public computer is available for checking emails, researching information, or improving your technology skills. The Computer lab is open on a first-come-first-served basis.

Crafters for Charity 

Get involved in making and selling crafts with all profits going to fight Cancer. Ways to help: knit, crochet, sew, set up, and maintain a simple website, mail orders or maintain and locate sale venues. Join us and help in the fight against Cancer. If you would like to be part of the Help Fight Cancer group, email Senior Services.

Senior Social Hour - Virtual

FITNESS
A Matter of Balance
A Matter of Balance is an eight-week program designed to help reduce your fear of falling and increase physical activity.
Boulder County Area on Aging sponsors this program and is free to Boulder County Residents age 60 and over.

Young at Heart Aerobic Flow - Virtual
This is the virtual version of SilverSneakers® Classic. Have fun and move to the music through various exercises designed to increase muscular strength, range of movement, and activities of daily living. Please email [email protected]. with questions.

SilverSneakers® Stability at the Senior Center
Movements taught in class focus on specific exercises to improve strength and power around the ankle, knee, and hip joints while improving your reaction time. This class is designed for fall prevention and is suitable for nearly every fitness level. 
The class is held at the Lafayette Senior Center, 103 S. Iowa Ave.

SilverSneakers® Classic
Have fun and move to the music through various exercises designed to increase muscular strength, range of movement, and activities for daily living. Handheld weights, elastic tubing with handles, and a SilverSneaker® ball are offered for resistance. A chair is available if needed for seated or standing support.  
The class is held at the Bob Burger Recreation Center gym.

SilverSneakers® Yoga
Move your whole body through a complete series of seated and standing yoga poses. Chair support is offered to safely perform various seated and standing postures designed to increase flexibility, balance, and range of movement. Restorative breathing exercises and final relaxation will promote stress reduction and mental clarity.   
The class is held at the Bob Burger Recreation Center gym.

Tai Chi 1 - Hybrid
Tai Chi is a form of exercise that is easy and gentle. It involves a series of movements performed in a slow, focused manner and accompanied by deep breathing. Tai Chi develops body awareness to help balance, promote activity, and improve health and mobility. Improved mobility can help participants maintain independence and lead fuller lives. Tai Chi is generally safe for all ages and fitness levels and is excellent for those who dislike sweating too much. Classes are held at the Senior Center with limited participant numbers or virtually. 

The instructor will email out zoom meeting information for virtual participants.

Tai Chi Form - Hybrid
The Tai Chi Form class will cover the first third of the form with a little meditation and warm-up. This class is open to anyone, and any experience level is welcome. Class is held at the Senior Center with limited participant numbers or virtually.

Thursday Trackers

Meet others who like walking around Old Town Lafayette or one of our local Open Spaces/parks. At the end of the walk, we usually meet at a coffee shop to enjoy refreshments. Walk times vary according to the group, location of the walk, and weather (45-60 minutes). If you have walking sticks, please bring them.

Medical Foot Care
Medical Foot Care is provided by the Visiting Nurse Association (VNA) and is offered on the third Wednesday of every month. Services include toenail trimming, callus filing, overall foot health check, and blood pressure check. The VNA handles all scheduling and payments. Medical foot care may be a benefit of your Kaiser plan.
Credit cards are preferred, but cash and checks are accepted.

Coal Creek Café & Meals on Wheels Programs
  • Meal Delivery Program: Delicious, made from scratch meals are delivered to seniors, people living with disabilities, low-income families, and individuals with illnesses, Monday-Friday, plus two frozen meals for the weekend. Caring delivery volunteers provide clients with social interaction to combat isolation.
  • Coal Creek Cafe: In partnership with the City of Lafayette Senior Services, meals are served Monday-Friday from 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Our dining service creates opportunities for guests to socialize with friends and neighbors while enjoying our delicious daily offerings. 
  • Plates for Pets: Through a partnership with the Colorado Pet Pantry, Coal Creek Meals on Wheels can deliver a supply of pet food (for cats, dogs, fish, birds, and rodents) along with our client meals on the last Monday of each month. This program helps our delivery clients maintain their companion animals.
  • Project Homecoming: Individuals living in Boulder County are eligible to receive five free meals delivered to their homes after being released from the hospital for any reason (e.g., following childbirth, an accident, surgery, or illness). Project Homecoming is available to anyone regardless of age, documentation status, or income level.

Alzheimer’s Association - Dementia Caregiver Support Groups - Virtual
Support groups are for family or friends who have a loved one with any dementia. Groups are facilitated by volunteers who are screened, trained and supervised by the Alzheimer's Association.
