Commencement 2022 Highlights
With hundreds of family members and friends in attendance to share their support, the School of Medicine’s graduates came together for their commencement ceremony to celebrate the completion of their time at Georgetown before embarking on the next steps in their medical careers.
The 404 graduates and undergraduates of the School of Nursing & Health Studies convened for the final time for commencement on Healy Lawn. “This is an exceptional time for you all to make a difference as future leaders,” John Monahan, JD, NHS interim dean said during the May 21 ceremony.
At colleges and universities across the country and at Georgetown, nurses mark the completion of their education and the start of their new careers with a traditional pinning — a pin unique to each institution. The May 20 ceremony honored the graduates of the BSN and CNL programs at the School of Nursing & Health Studies.
At the 2022 annual Blessing of the Hands Ceremony, Roberta Waite, EdD, RN, PMHCNS, ANEF, FAAN, dean-select of the new School of Nursing, called on graduates to “demand the creation of systems that are truly equitable” in delivering care.
School of Nursing & Health Studies faculty and students gathered to celebrate undergraduate student achievements during its annual Tropaia ceremony.
School of Medicine faculty and staff joined members of the Class of 2022 and their loved ones at the Warwick Evans Awards Ceremony to celebrate the students’ accomplishments, hard work and dedication. “Tonight, we will turn our attention to our fourth-year students who have excelled in very specific areas of research, education or service in a wide variety of accomplished work,” said Lee Jones, MD, dean for medical education, at the May 20 event in Gaston Hall.
As is tradition, the School of Medicine launched its 2022 commencement week with the annual MAGIS Society of Master Teachers Induction and Faculty Awards Ceremony recognizing contributions to medical education. Four new MAGIS inductees were honored at this year's event.

From May 19-22, Georgetown celebrated the Class of 2022’s Commencement — the first graduation back on the Hilltop in three years.
Holy Family University (Newtown, Penn.) presented Carol Taylor, PhD, MSN, RN, FAAN, professor of advanced nursing practice at the School of Nursing & Health Studies and a senior clinical scholar in the Kennedy Institute of Ethics, with a doctor of humane letters, honoris causa, on May 21. Taylor also delivered the commencement address to the graduate students. She graduated with her BSN from Holy Family in 1975.
