Television journalists, the longest serving Public Health Service officer in the USPHS Commissioned Corps, a groundbreaking advocate dedicated to improving health by eradicating racism and an academic leader committed to increasing diversity in medicine are among those scheduled to speak at Georgetown’s commencement activities May 18 through 21. 
The current cohort of Global Health Institute (GHI) student fellows embodies the university’s commitment to a cross-disciplinary approach to researching global health. Students and faculty from all three Georgetown University Medical Center schools, as well as the law center and main campus, partner across professions to advance global health projects.
Recognizing National Nurses Week
During National Nurses Week May 6-12, we honor the everyday heroism and celebrate the many important roles of nurses at the School of Nursing and across the Medical Center. Here at Georgetown, nursing means care of the whole person (cura personalis) and care for the community (cura communitas), advocacy, discovery through research, formation through education and mentorship, pursuit of the greater good, global citizenship, ethical exploration and so much more.
Friends and supporters gathered for the 35th annual Lombardi Gala to celebrate life and hope, and rally support for funding cancer research at Georgetown University’s Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center. The April 29 gala, held at The Anthem at the Wharf, raised more than $1.2 million.

Walk-in registration is available for the MedStar Health-Georgetown University Research & Education Symposium this Monday, May 8 at the Bethesda North Marriott Hotel & Conference Center. Eliseo Pérez-Stable, MD, director of NIH National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities, will give the keynote at 5:30 p.m.
The Staff/AAP Advisory Council provides a formal, university-recognized, duly-elected body for staff and academic and administrative professionals (AAPs) to consider issues and act as a voice to university decision-makers, administrators and executives. Nominees to serve on the council must be full-time or part-time (at least 50% time) university staff employees or AAPs, with at least one year of service as a regular or term employee as of the first day of potential service on the council (July 1, 2023). 

Any eligible staff member or AAP can nominate themselves or a colleague to serve on the council. Please submit nominations using this form by May 12 and email staffaapcouncil@georgetown.edu with questions.

Medical school mentors are needed for the Gateway Exploration Program, a summer pipeline program for high school students from underrepresented backgrounds who are interested in pursuing careers in medicine. Mentors must be available in person June 26 - August 4 for 1-2 hours per week. Apply here by May 19.
