May 2, 2021
Dear Class of 2021 Families,
We are pleased that the school will host the Class of 2021 Commencement ceremony outside this year as we almost always have. We want the most space possible to allow for all our faculty and staff members as well as ample family members during COVID protocols, so the event will be held on Hondros Field once again this year. As we continue our planning for this special day, I want to provide the information we can, although – as we’ve witnessed – we could have changes in the next six weeks.

The Monday, June 7th event will be unsheltered outside and, short of a torrential downpour or thunderstorm, it will begin at 9:00 a.m. Should the weather prove intemperate at 9:00 a.m, the start of Commencement may shift to later in the morning, early afternoon or late afternoon. We ask for your flexibility and understanding with the start time.

Historically, it has been the school’s practice to designate seats for seniors, faculty, trustees, underclassmen and chorus singers, but otherwise to use an “open seating” approach for family members of the graduates and any guests. This year, each graduate’s family will have six chairs placed in a “family pod” behind the graduates on the field. The school has arranged for the ceremony to be broadcast for live, extended-family viewing. A recording of Commencement will also be available for all graduates. Trustees and the entire faculty and staff will be present. Underclassmen who are not in band, orchestra or choir will not be expected to attend the ceremony. Should you or your immediate family member(s) require handicapped seating, please contact Executive Assistant to the Head of School Shannon Nelson ( to coordinate this effort.

All of this is to say that Commencement is a great recognition for each senior and for this community. We are thrilled to have all of the seniors together as a class for the ceremony. At the end of this highly unusual school year, the faculty and staff wish to celebrate the seniors’ launch into new adventures as well.

On behalf of the seniors and the faculty, I thank you in advance for your attention to making Commencement Day an enjoyable celebration for all.
