The Following is from NN4Y
The Trump administration has proposed a devastating new rule that removes protections for asylum seekers in the U.S., including protections for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and HIV-positive (LGBTQ/H) people fleeing life-threatening persecution. The new laws propose nearly a dozen new bars to asylum including changes to the concepts of “particular social group” and “political opinion” as grounds for asylum eligibility which would severely limit LGBTQ/H claims. A new rule bans asylum on the basis of gender outright, which could be misinterpreted to also bar claims based on gender identity or even sexual orientation. The changes would abandon hundreds of thousands of vulnerable individuals and families with nowhere else to turn for safety -- including the more than 300,000 people with affirmative asylum claims currently pending.

In order to protect LGBTQ/H asylum, we are calling on our network and partnering stakeholders to  submit a public comment opposing this rule . Comments are due by Wednesday, July 15, 2020 at 11:59 PM (ET) or 8:59 PM (PST).

The Trump administration has  proposed  rules to undermine the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) protections for transgender people seeking safe shelter. Their latest proposal would remove existing protections for transgender people by removing critical equal access protections to regulations meant to ensure the safety of anyone in need of HUD-funded programs.

The comment period isn't open yet, but we encourage you  sign up  so you can join us and our partners in submitting comments in opposition to these proposed rules.
