Giving Life Back

Chris Cornwell has worn many hats throughout his career. For instance, he worked as a police officer in Dayton for nearly a decade and a desk job with the Ohio Department of Public Safety before joining the Division of Liquor Control as a compliance agent in August 2014. 


But a job as a bouncer at a bar in the late 90s was what led Chris to donate a kidney this year.

Thank you to the 20 employees who attended the final field staff Lunch with Leadership event in Hamilton last week. In total, more than 130 field staff attended the regional events. We hope you enjoyed connecting with your colleagues and learning more about the work of the Department of Commerce.

Don’t Miss the Ohio Fire Marshal Festival

SFM will host its free Ohio Fire Marshal Festival on campus from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 10 at 8895 E. Main St, Reynoldsburg, OH, 43068. 


A few exciting elements of the festival will include helicopter landings, K-9 training exercises, food trucks, fire apparatuses, fire safety demonstrations, and entertainment with a focus on education, safety and fun, interactive experiences. Children will be able to participate in an assortment of activities including a magic show, face painting, bounce houses, balloon twisting, and a kiddie combat challenge with water hoses. 


Discussion & Direction 

It was standing room only in the multipurpose room at the Division of State Fire Marshal Wednesday, August 31 for an All-Hands meeting hosted by Marshal Reardon and others. This annual meeting served to update the SFM staff on many of the recent activities within the division.

As part of the agency's Combined Charitable Campaign efforts, the Division of Liquor Control is hosting a bake sale from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 7 on the second floor of 6606 Tussing Road. Stop by to purchase some sweet treats for a good cause!

After 24 years of state service, Kim Fleming, Accountant/Examiner 2 for the Division of Liquor Control, has retired. We caught up with Kim to get her thoughts on her days at Commerce.

Kim: I have been with the state, Division of Liquor Control for 24 ½ years and I have

seen a great deal of change both personally and professionally.

The State of Ohio is implementing multifactor authentication (MFA) to access our Microsoft Office 365 applications using Duo Security.

This means you will need to take an additional step beyond entering your user ID and password (OH|ID) to access Microsoft Office 365 applications, including but not limited to: Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, OneDrive, SharePoint and webmail.
