City Council Session on September 7
 
With work on the City's General Plan and Zoning Update "Envision Burlingame" progressing, the Burlingame City Council will hold a special study session at City Hall Council Chambers on Wednesday, September 7 to review the work to date and provide input.
 
The Council will review results from community workshops, online surveys, direction from the project's Community Advisory Committee as well as Planning Commission input in formulating a draft of the "Emerging Land Use Concept" for the future of Burlingame.
There will also be a discussion on future population growth and housing in the City.
 
Members of the public are encouraged to attend and provide comments and questions. The meeting will also be live-streamed on the City's public access television channel and on the City Council meeting page . The meeting work session will include presentation and discussion, with no formal Council action taking place.

Parks and Recreation and Beautification Commissions

The Burlingame Parks and Recreation Department is looking for a few good men and women...
 
to serve on either our Parks and Recreation Commission or our Beautification Commission.
 
The Parks and Recreation Commission  meets on the third Thursday of every month from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Commissioners serve a three year term and act in an advisory capacity to the City Council, City Manager, and Parks and Recreation Director in providing general oversight, input, and direction for the City's recreation programs and park facilities. Application deadline is September 19.
 
The Beautification Commission  meets on the first Thursday of the month from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Commissioners serve a three year term and act in an advisory capacity to the City Council, City Manager, and Parks and Recreation Director and provides general oversight, input, and public information with regard to the City's street, park, and private trees as well as other matters relating to the City's landscapes. Application deadline is October 7.

constructionConstruction on El Camino Begins Next Week
New water main line project

The City is replacing the existing water main on El Camino Real. The new water line will be installed along El Camino Real between Broadway and Hillside Drive; at the Ray Drive intersection, and at the Murchison Drive intersection. Construction is anticipated to begin the week of August 29, 2016 and continue through January 2017.
 
This work will improve the reliability of the drinking water supply to residents and businesses, as well as improve fire protection. This project is funded by water utility rate payers.
  
What to Expect During Construction
  • Weekday work hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • One lane of traffic in each direction during this time. Left hand turns will be restricted within the construction area.
  • Temporary parking restrictions on side streets will be posted at least 48 hours in advance.
  • Uneven pavement, including metal plates, between construction and re-paving activities.
  • Possible short delays for residents or businesses to access properties or driveways. The contractor will temporarily place metal plates over open trenches to provide access if needed.
Please note: the Contractor should not need to enter your home. If there is a need to enter your home due to an emergency, the Contractor will be accompanied by a City representative, who will show proper identification.

Now recruiting members for 2016-2017 school year!
  
The Burlingame Youth Advisory Committee (YAC) is currently recruiting members for the 2016-2017 school year! YAC is seeking motivated and responsible 7-12 graders to help coordinate activities for teens, assist with community events, take action on community issues, and help with fundraising. YAC provides youth with a great opportunity to gain valuable leadership skills, make new friends and have a lot of fun! Use your creativity, experience, initiative and community spirit to make a difference in Burlingame. Members are required to attend meetings regularly. YAC hours count towards school community service requirements. Seeking grand marshal, school floats

Organizers of the 2016 Burlingame Pet Parade are seeking nominations for this year's Grand Marshal, who will be the center of attention at the thirteenth annual parade on Saturday, September 24, beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Broadway. Anyone who wishes to march in the parade must arrive by 9:30 a.m. Admission is free.
For the second year, local schools are invited to compete in a "Best School Float" contest. All public and private schools in San Mateo County that serve students from kindergarten through Grade 12 are eligible. The winning school will receive a check for $400 and the second-place winner will receive $200 from the Broadway Merchants Association.  School groups must register in advance by contacting Ayn Gilmore at AVR Realty in Burlingame at [email protected] or calling or (650) 342-2073. Labor Day, Monday, September 5 at 8:00 a.m.
  
Run, don't work on Labor Day. The fifth annual Burlingame Spirit Run is 8 a.m. Monday, Sept. 5. Runners and walkers can do a 5K or 10K race around Burlingame, starting at BIS and finishing at Franklin Elementary.
