This week!
Thanksgiving and Commitment Sunday
November 22
Worship at 8:30am and 10am

Watch your mail this week for a special delivery containing a letter from Pastor Judy and a Commitment Card for your 2021 pledge.

Your financial gifts to Hennepin make it possible for us to innovate and extend our work to meet the challenges of socially-distanced ministry. You have made possible our virtual worship services, door-to-door delivery of children's and family ministry resources, outdoor gatherings like Trunk-or-Treat, online gatherings and prayer groups, continuous outreach services and faith formation support, and so much more.

Together, we can commit our blessings from God to building a beloved community of faith, fellowship and transformation.

Don't miss the inspiring and vision-casting worship services on this Sunday.
Virtual Angel Tree is Up!
Monday, Nov 16, through Monday, December 7

Every year Hennepin partners with Refugee Services at the Minnesota Council of Churches to provide Christmas gifts for children who have resettled in the Twin Cities over the past year. Every year, these families are blessed by the generosity of the Hennepin community. It has been a tough year for so many, and especially for those who are new to our country.

To minimize health risks for all, we're going virtual with the Angel Tree gift assignments this year.

Please click on this link to sign up to shop for one these children, or for a whole family. Please deliver unwrapped gifts to the East Entry of Hennepin by Monday, December 7.

Refugee Services recommends shopping for something warm (hats, scarves, gloves, warm socks), something fun (toys, games, soccer balls, cell phone chargers, ear buds, etc), and something for learning (games, books, puzzles, etc.)

Thank you for being a blessing!

Hennepin's Phased Reopening Plans
We're In the "Orange Phase"
*with updated restrictions*

Earlier this week, the MN Conference of the UMC moved from the "yellow phase" to the "orange phase" of the Phased Re-Gathering Plan for Churches. Hennepin continue to be in the Orange Phase, with updated restrictions, effective Tuesday, October 27. We have reopened our church building for certain limited purposes.

Here is what to expect during the Orange Phase:
  • worship services continue to be held online only;
  • most groups and committees continue to meet virtually;
  • in-person on-site weddings and funerals are permitted for groups of no more than 10 people;
  • a receptionist will be on site Monday through Friday, 8am to 2pm, and the building will be fully closed on weekends;
  • throughout the church building hand-sanitizing stations are in place;
  • appropriate signage has been posted to indicate spaces within the building that remain closed;
  • most staff continue to work remotely;
  • staff in the office wear masks, measure their temperature before working in the office, and are directed to disinfect their personal workspace before leaving;
  • members, vendors and other guests adhere to the same requirements as staff.

Thank you for your prayers and patience as we navigate the best way in which to reopen safely. If you have any questions regarding HAUMC’s reopening plan, please contact Joe Polach, Director of Facilities, by phone at 612.435.1335 or by email at joep@haumc.org.

Worship this Week: Commitment Sunday
Give Thanks

Sacred Journey at 8:30am
This week's scripture: Worship and Obey the Lord

Traditional Worship at 10am
This week's scripture: A Call to Worship and Obedience

In this worship series we explore the ways God calls us to practice extravagant generosity for the transformation of the world.

How can our gifts of time, talent, treasure and witness help Hennepin to build
compassionate connections, reach new people, and heal the brokenness of our
world? How, as we grapple with racial injustice and global pandemic, do we commit more deeply than ever to living in unity as God's beloved community?

Discover how God is transforming lives through your investment in the ministries of Hennepin, and make your 2021 Financial Gift this Commitment Sunday, November 22.

Find our worship services on our website (haumc.org/live), on Facebook@HennepinAvenueUMC, on YouTube, or on our live stream apps.

Send Care Packages to Hennepin's 18-22 Year Olds
Saturday, November 21 through Sunday, November 29

Hennepin will be sending care packages to our 18-22 year-olds to remind them that we care about them and to provide a bit of fun at this time of year when they may be studying, working long hours, or feeling isolated from family and friends for the holidays.

If you know of someone who should receive a care package, and you have not already been contacted, please email Debra Hovland at hovla003@gmail.com and provide her with the person's name and address.

We'll be sending the care packages between Thanksgiving and the end of the first week of December.

If you'd like to support this effort with a financial donation, please send a check to Rick Belbutoski at the church (511 Groveland Ave., Minneapolis, MN, 55403) and put "Care Package" on the memo line.

Thank you for sharing love and comfort!

Ideas for Giving at Year-End 2020

The CARES Act includes several 2020 charitable tax provisions to encourage giving to Hennepin, whether to complete your 2019 pledge, consider an additional gift, pre-pay on a 2021 pledge or fund a Legacy Gift. The special incentives for 2020 (for cash gifts only) include:

·      A charitable gift deduction of up to $300 for those who do not itemize on their federal tax return
·      An increase in the deduction limit, for those who do itemize, up to 100% of adjusted gross income (previously capped at 60%), enabling you to give more this year.

Of course, such other typical giving options as stocks and securities, Donor Advised Funds, and IRA rollover may be advantageous for you. For more information, contact Jack Fistler at 612-435-1321 or jack@haumc.org and contact your personal financial advisor.
United Methodist Church Dakotas-Minnesota Area
"Just Love" Special Appeal

When we’re fearful and fuming, depleted and damaged, may we respond by just loving God and neighbor. When we witness discrimination and division, callousness and cruelty, may we respond by loving justly. Just love allocates human and financial resources to assess and address crisis response, relief, recovery rebuilding, renewal, repentance and restitution, trauma therapy, and anti-racism. Just love addresses the food, Black home and business ownership, and health care deserts within our communities.

Your gifts will enable partnerships with our congregations on the frontlines to support ministries of mercy (crisis counseling, housing stability, food/medicine) and ministries of racial justice (education, advocacy, intervention). A Rapid Response Grant Team with representatives from urban core churches and Black congregational leaders will oversee special appeal allocations, and your donations will be directed to where there is the greatest need in rebuilding our neighborhoods.

Give online here.

If you prefer, checks can be mailed to the Minnesota Conference at 122 W. Franklin Ave., Suite 200, Minneapolis, MN 55404-2472. Please note “JUST LOVE” on the memo line.

Thank you for your generosity and stewardship of God’s mercy and justice.
