Since our inception we have been committed to the belief that all members of the community are valued and deserve access to healthcare and health education. In these uncertain times, we are continuing to provide free diabetes and hypertension screenings together with education and counseling about the prevention and management of these chronic diseases. The neighborhoods we visit with our medical mobile unit have been the hardest hit by COVID-19 and face the most civil unrest as the country strives to find a new equilibrium.

We are grateful to our generous donors who continue to make our work possible, to our staff and volunteers who have creatively found ways to safely provide these critical services, and to our clients, from whom we learn so much.

PROVIDING WHATEVER IS NEEDED
"I appreciate Summit Medical Group for all they do …providing screenings for diabetes being here on the front lines….bringing boxes of soap, masks, face shields and boxes of food for the people….they never stop. Our people look forward to their diabetes call (from SMGF) and their diabetes screening – it is a blessing."

SUPPORTING OUR PARTNERS
We've been working hand in hand with our long term partners, including the Boys & Girls Clubs of Paterson & Passaic.

By providing them with thermometers for COVID-19 symptom screening, soap, masks and snacks, they are one step closer to opening their doors and providing needed childcare.
KEEPING IN TOUCH
Stay at home orders cannot stop Anna and Angel, our clinical dynamic duo, from reaching out to the clients in our Food, Health, Hope program. Staying in touch with each client, they have made sure they were getting the nutritious food needed to keep them on track managing their diabetes and hypertension, answered questions about COVID-19 spread and gave practical tips for managing stress.
MUSIC FOR THE SOUL
How do you keep the music playing when we are all in quarantine?

With Bob Egan, trading in the Oncology Department waiting area for Facebook live each and every Thursday.

It is impossible not to smile and sing along when Bob is playing and taking requests. As one patient noted:

" Thanks Bob for playing Edelweiss. You made my day - this is the best medicine."
PATIENT IN NEED FUND
Fighting cancer is hard enough. Our Patient-in-Need Fund provides one-time grants to help patients and families with critical, non-medical expenses. With COVID-19 striking economic havoc on so many people, grants have helped with rent, car payments, phone bills and groceries. By easing some of their financial stress, we hope patients can focus their energy on regaining their health and strength.
