Apply to Serve on a 2024 Law Society of Alberta Committee

The Law Society of Alberta is now accepting applications from active Alberta lawyers interested in volunteering on a committee. Diverse perspectives play an important role in helping us achieve our mission of serving the public interest by ensuring a high standard of legal services and professional conduct.

Committee appointments will be approved at the February 2024 Bencher meeting. Committee members are appointed for a three-year term.

If you are interested in volunteering on the following committees, visit the Law Society website for more information and fill out the online application form.

There are 12 anticipated vacancies:

  • Audit and Finance (two vacancies): The Audit and Finance Committee has approximately seven, two-hour meetings per year.
  • Conduct (six vacancies): The Conduct Committee meets in panels of three once a month (always a Tuesday). Most meetings last one hour and the panel composition is based on the committee member’s availability.
  • Practice Review (four vacancies): The Practice Review Committee meets in panels of three on Wednesday mornings. There are approximately 12 panel meetings each year, which typically last an hour and a half. The panel meetings are scheduled by the Tribunal Office and the panel composition is based on availability.

Call for Reconciliation Roster Members

The Law Society of Alberta remains committed to responding to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action in a thoughtful and collaborative way that builds and strengthens relationships with Indigenous Peoples and communities. Hearing a wide array of Indigenous perspectives is crucial for advancing this work, which is why the Law Society is expanding its ongoing consultation with Indigenous people in Alberta to include as many voices as possible with a Reconciliation Roster.

The Reconciliation Roster will provide guidance, feedback and resource suggestions for program initiatives, legal issues and educational programs to assist the Indigenous Initiatives Counsel's work for the Law Society.

The Law Society is currently seeking Indigenous volunteers for the Reconciliation Roster, from both legal and non-legal backgrounds. Members of the roster can serve as long as they are able to. Opportunities to advise on each issue will be provided based on experience, availability and interest.

If you are interested in becoming a member of the roster, please fill out the survey and our Indigenous Initiatives Counsel will be in contact.
