Hello Common Flame Beloveds! Your MC here. I know you’re busy. Many of you are already giving your time to Common Flame in lots of ways. And for some folx, health, disability, caregiving, work, or other circumstances make Sunday volunteering difficult or impossible. But if you can help, we need you.
It takes 6 people, each service, every Sunday to greet, usher, make coffee, and help everyone who walks through our doors feel welcome. With hundreds of us attending on Sunday mornings, we end up begging for help with an empty sign-up sheet. That is not sustainable, and it is a strange way to build community together.
Our Welcome Team sign-up has dates listed for the entire fiscal year. Imagine if each of us who is able chose even a few Sundays, came a little early, and helped welcome everyone else. No last-minute scramble. No relying on the same folx over and over. Just a community taking care of its community.
Some roles are as simple as standing outside, smiling, and saying, “Good morning. I’m glad you’re here.” The sign-up includes links to tasks in case you aren't sure what each one does. And if you've thought about it but haven't signed up, I genuinely want to know: What would make it easier? What would help you say yes?
Choose a Sunday. Come a little early. Sign-up early. Let's not scramble this year. Thank you all for what you do to build this community.
