The Very Heart of Our Lenten Observance:

Our Communal Penance Service

with 11 Priests

If even Pope Francis receives the Sacrament of Penance, shouldn't everyone? Our Communal Penance for Both Parishes will be Monday, March 11, at 7:15 PM at Saint Victor. It is ideal for Catholics to celebrate the Sacrament of Penance once each year. The service will begin at 7:15, and individual confession will begin around 7:30 with the introduction of confessors.

The Church clearly teaches that when a communal form of a sacrament is provided, that is the form that has the pride of place. (SC #27)

Our Celebration of Lenten Healing Continues With

The Anointing of the Sick at Mass

With Four Priests

On Saturday, March 16, at 5 PM Mass at Saint Victor. We will have three additional priests for this mass during which there will be a procession for the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick. Father Corrigan will move throughout the church to anoint anyone who cannot come forward. In addition to the persons being anointed, a family member or caregiver is invited to come up with them to place a prayerful hand on the shoulder of the person being anointed.

This celebration is for both parishes and is immediately prior to our Annual Appreciation Dinner, which is free, but RSVP's are required.

New Diocesan Assignments for Mother of Sorrows

Deacon Will Yoho Appointed Parish Life Coordinator

Father Michael McCandless Appointed Presbyteral Moderator

Father Corrigan's Assignment Concludes

Effective April 1, 2024

Here are the appointment letters indicating these new assignments:

Deacon Yoho's Message

For the Bulletin of Immaculate Heart of Mary

Cuyahoga Falls

The Most Reverend Edward Malesic has reassigned Deacon Will Yoho to serve as Parish Life Coordinator for Mother of Sorrows Parish in Peninsula effective April 1st 2024.   Father Mike McCandless will serve as Presbyteral Moderator.

Many of you may already be familiar with or have visited Mother of Sorrows Parish in Peninsula, Ohio. It is one of our diocesan parishes located in the heart of the Cuyahoga Valley National Park and is a visible landmark in downtown Peninsula.

I will oversee the day to day administration of the parish, providing pastoral, financial, and administrative leadership. I will take on the responsibility of guiding and accompanying parishioners’ spiritual growth and the ministries of the parish. Father Mike's primary role will be offering priestly and sacramental support to the parish.

Mother of Sorrows has been continuously supported by a group of local, retired priests who have provided sacramental care since the retirement of Fr. John Terzano in 2022. I am grateful that these priests have been dedicated to ministry at the parish and hope they will continue to be available in the time ahead.

It has been one of the greatest privileges of my life to serve the wonderful people of Immaculate Heart of Mary as deacon for the last 17 years. I desire to continue the wonderful friendships I have been blessed with here at Immaculate Heart of Mary. I will continue to lead the Summit Men’s Fellowship here and I hope to occasionally serve at mass here at IHM.

Please pray for the people of Mother of Sorrows as they go through a transition of leadership, and also for me.

May God continue to bless you all,

Deacon Will

Father Corrigan's Message

For Parishioners of Mother of Sorrows

and Saint Victor

Since I am still processing this new information, I will delay a complete statement until the next parish gallery. The diocese wishes for us to disseminate this information without undue delay. Thus I will make additional comments later.

Deacon Yoho and I will be meeting very soon in order to sketch out the methodology for this transition.

I cannot begin to enumerate all of the persons who have been helpful during the past two years relative to this ministry. I will do so more thoroughly in our next message. However, the outstanding parish staffs of both parishes have been extremely helpful, along with parish volunteers.

Stanley Hujarski, the Parish Accountant of Mother of Sorrows, and I put a great deal of thought into the streamlining of parish financial and other procedures. Processes have been simplified and expenses have been vastly reduced. Thus this transition should be quite straightforward.

The current schedule will remain effect through March and I do not anticipate any changes to the Lenten lineup of activities. Deacon Yoho will begin his ministry at Mother of Sorrows on April 1.

I might add that I executed the agreement for the thorough, commercial cleaning of the Mother of Sorrows buildings mere hours before this reassignment was announced. That needed to be done in any event, and the process is going quite well. Please bear in mind that this is a costly project, thus contributions to the MoS Building Fund will help the parish to avoid deficit spending during this fiscal year. Thank you very much!

OUR LENTEN JOURNEY

For Both Parishes

NOTE: The Sacred Triduum is celebrated for Both Parishes at Saint Victor.

The Collection for the Mass of the Lord's Supper on Holy Thursday is directed toward the ministries of the Saint Vincent de Paul chapter of Saint Victor Parish.

Important Project For

Mother of Sorrows Building Fund:

Rectory and Church Cleaning

Many Mother of Sorrows parishioners have had the opportunity to tour all of the parish buildings, including the rectory. It is clear that there is a need for extensive professional, commercial cleaning before any additional work can be done. Three quotes were received from companies referred by the diocese, and the approved quote is approximately $10,600.

Mother of Sorrows does have a wonderful housekeeper, Molly, who fulfills her assigned duties to perfection. The kind of cleaning required by this project is extensive, and well beyond the scope of normal housekeeping.

This project will begin shortly. Parishioners are asked to consider generous contributions to the Building Fund of Mother of Sorrows so that this project can be completed without necessitating deficit spending during this fiscal year. Every dollar contributed to the Building Fund remains at the parish, and is not assessed by the diocese. Thank you very much for your generosity.

Piano Recital By:

Alena Misknis

Former Parish Musician of Saint Victor

Saturday, March 9, After Mass at 6:15 PM

Following "Pizza Saturday" and "Fruit Kabobs"

Alena Miskinis is a graduate assistant at Ball State University pursuing her master’s degree in Sport and Exercise Psychology, with the intention of addressing the mental health of performing artists. She also recently graduated from Kent State University with bachelor's degrees in English, Psychology, and Piano Performance.

As a pianist, Alena has studied with Dr. Ray Kilburn and Steinway artist Dr. Donna Lee, and has performed at Severance Hall in Cleveland, Brevard Music Center in North Carolina, La Schola Cantorum in Paris, and as a concerto soloist with the KSU orchestra. As a published researcher, Alena has presented her work nationally and internationally including in Brazil and Japan, and she is particularly excited as she begins her consulting work with musicians, athletes, and exercisers.

Alena is incredibly grateful to share her program at her home parish, St. Victor, which she has attended with her family since she was eight. Works will feature female Baroque composer Elisabeth Jacquet de la Guerre, folk-arranger Percy Grainger, jazz-influenced composer William Bolcom, and classic composers Chopin, Haydn, and Rachmaninoff.
