Plus: Friday, Feb. 25 and Tuesday, March 15 are both school days! District 58 updated its 2021-22 calendar last August. The updated calendar changed the date of the winter Teacher Institute Day. The updated calendar also changed Tuesday, March 15 to a school day (it was previously a non-school day due to Election Day; however, Election Day was moved to June 2022). Last August, we emailed the updated calendar to families and posted it on our website. We realize some families might still have the old calendar, so we wanted to remind you of the following:

  • Friday, Feb. 25 is a school day.
  • Friday, March 4 is not a school day. (It's the County's Teacher Institute Day).
  • Tuesday, March 15 is a school day.

District 58 offers free child-sized KN95 masks
District 58 recently received a large shipment of child-sized KN95 masks. If you would like your child to receive two free child-sized KN95 masks, please complete this form.

District 58 will provide masks to interested families on a first-come, first-served basis. The masks will be sent home with your child by Friday, March 4.

Please note: this mask distribution is voluntary and provided to families as a convenience; families can choose to send their child to school without a mask or with a family-provided mask. District 58 ordered the masks from a local supplier and cannot attest to the quality of the masks.
Take the School Environment Survey and 5Essentials Survey
District 58 invites parents/guardians to take two anonymous surveys: the District’s Parent/Guardian School Environment Survey and the State’s Parent 5Essentials Survey.

The School Environment Survey measures parent/guardian satisfaction with their child’s school experience, and the 5Essentials Survey gathers data related to five indicators that can predict important student outcomes. District 58 schools will receive a 5Essentials parent survey report if more than 20% of parents/guardians complete the survey.

The District will also administer the State’s 5Essentials Survey to staff and fourth-through-eighth grade students between Feb. 22-March 11, 2022. These surveys are also anonymous, and the survey results will become a part of District 58’s 2022 Illinois Report Card. Learn more at www.dg58.org/surveys.
Grove Children’s Preschool registration opens Thursday, Feb. 24

Grove Children’s Preschool tuition applications for the 2022-23 school year will open online at www.dg58.org/preschool on Thursday, Feb. 24 at 8 a.m. First priority applications are due Tuesday, March 8. Learn more here.

Winter Weather Series Part 6: How can I prepare for inclement weather?
District 58 has been sharing one winter weather FAQ in recent Communicate 58 newsletters. To view all FAQs, please visit www.dg58.org/family-resources/winter. Today we bring you the final FAQ of the season: How can I prepare for inclement weather?

  • In Downers Grove, parking on streets and in public parking lots is prohibited between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. when 3 or more inches of snow have fallen.
  • It is against Downers Grove ordinance to shovel, place or blow snow or ice onto the street, sidewalk or any right-of-way.
  • Please be a good neighbor and shovel your sidewalk and any nearby fire hydrants, if you are able.
  • Please keep fire hydrants accessible and shovel out an area around them, if you are able.
  • Avoid driving during snow events, but if you must go out, keep water and blankets or an extra coat in your car for warmth, and keep the gas tank full.
  • Make sure your vehicle has adequate tire tread to avoid getting stuck.
  • Keep children from playing in snow banks along the road. It’s enticing-because the large piles of snow seem like a giant fort-but very dangerous; children may tumble onto the road in front of cars or snow plows.
  • Place a snow shovel in your trunk. You never know when you might need one during your travels.
  • Snow shoveling secrets! When shoveling at the end of your driveway, be sure to shovel snow to your right (when facing the street). As the plow passes, it will carry the snow away from your driveway.
